Default Is DISH DETERGENT ok to use before I sand & prime the car?

Is it okay to use cheap dish detergent to wash my car before I sand and prime it? I've read some stuff saying its okay to use Dawn dish detergent but a guy at the place where I bought my paint (collision shop) said dish detergent is the worst thing I can use. Whats the story? Is regular old dish detergent good for the final wash or do I have to fork over a bunch of money on some super-duper expensive specialized stuff?

Thanks

Dish detergent is normally horrible to wash a car because it strips off wax. If you're planning to sand the car anyways, go for it.
