It's a nice idea but it's kind of like that last finishing touch. I'd think you could do a lot of other things with that money.

StrikeEagle, I don't know what I was thinking but your right. Lol, deleted.

It's not like we can't get our own GB going. Even Import Trendz would do it as long as they GET the money. (stab)
Lots of companies will do it, but we would need to get a donor hatch to them, which would be impossible with this crowd and the rarity of them.

well John... I agree, but if we can find someone to do it and just located a junkyard... Every Hyundai I've ever seen in a junkyard seems to be smashed in the front. Unless hit in the rear quarter panel and twisted body, the hatch should be fine.

The last junkyard I hit up, the Persian owner said, "Hyundai must not make good brakes. They can't stop fast, always run into other cars. All have damaged front, rear is good."

I'd suggest starting by contacting the company MaierApril had working on his Tib. East Coast Customs I think? if you search, you can find it.... or contact him.

If you guys beat me to it, I'll buy one from you. Otherwise, its still in the cards for me. I have a RD2 ready to tear apart for a WB job, and during the time the car is down, I'll have a hatch off the car with no glass, ready to do the damn thing. No money up front, no drama, just me doing my thing and letting you guys know what comes of it after I have something to show you.

And as for Lexan, basically, forget it. Our window is bowed in two different directions, and you COULD do it yourself with a sheet of lexan, but it'll look like butt, or like a true ugly race part. Otherwise the CF hatch with Glass window looks pure SEX. My GK guys love their CF Hatches with glass, and I think you guys will too....... eventually, hehe.

Chris... do you know what the weight savings was for the GK guys?

I would expect the glass would weigh a ton . If you wanted ugly Lexan for weight purposes, it would definitely help, but it's gonna be difficult I would suspect.

What are laws for street-legal glass / lexan? anyone know?

Lexan weighs exactly half of regular glass. Say there's 80lbs of glass in the car. You'd save 40lbs.
It would be worth it for a race only setup, but not for a daily that will have road debree scratching it up.
You would end up spending over $1000 on the full setup. That money could be better/easier spent on suspension or a turbo setup, which will give you better results.

As far as being street legal. It depends on your state, but you won't get a ticket as long as it "appears" stock. If it has curves and glues in stock location, then I doubt an officer will notice at all.

Here's a custom fabricator that may be able to do a GB: http://www.proglasswindows.com/

Stock hatch on the GK with Glass was over 70 lbs. My CF hatch for them without glass was like 17 lbs.
