Well I decided to make my own bumper since too much is not available for my J1.

I got my hands on a defect from a factory by where I work. Its some sort of FORD bumper. I took 2 of them in case I screwed the first one up.

I cut the top off and test fitted it.

Then I cut some more off.

And here is a picture of the spare one...if anyone has any idea of what it came from let me know.

So anyways I was wondering if anyone knows of any good ways to attach the plastic bumper to the fenders. I assume Im going to be using alot of bondo. This is my first time doing anything like this so if you have any advice or tips, let me know.

ah yeah it's from a ford. focus or new mercury. let's see if you can make a hood.

Well that was just a test fit...to see what it looks like and how it will fit. Tomorrow I will make a template and drill holes so everything matches up.

duraglass is just reinforced bondo with short strand fiberglass...

you can get it called kitty hair and such at most boat shops (they sell all sorts of fiberglass and fiberglass matt)

Your most likely going to want to go to the local body supply shop and ask them for a SEM product it bonds everything they have a bunch, just ask for the one that bonds fiberglass to rubber, metal, and a few other htings I will look for the item number tomorow morning. Also what I've used only a few times for rubber to rubber was a 2 part epoxy it is a black tube and a white tube..

you could just use matte, and resin, that will provide the adhesion and the strength that you need. then just fill in the inperfections and smooth it out with bondo..

duraglass is a pain in the ass to work with.. bondo is easy to work with but isn't going to give you the strength. matte or cloth is easy to form, work with and is very strong..

are you going to be molding the bumper in? if so, you will really want to use a sheet of fiberglass cloth. duraglass will be too messy and too thick. bondo wont go well between the seam, but fiberglass with actually cover up the seam between bumper and fender, and you will never see the line.

I dont really want to put too much work into this. The car was $400 and the bumper was free. I have 2 weeks until my parents come back from Cuba and I have to give the echo up.

Im still debating on what I will actually use, since the weather has not been nice towards me and I dont have a garage.

Ill keep you guys updated throughout the project.

Thanks again for your ideas.

well using fiberglass matte will be the easiest to form a shape and the easiest to cover a mold line, thats why i suggested it.
