I say leave your headlights alone.. I dunno it'd look weird. Maybe you have a vision I'm not seeing though.
Are you talking about tinting the outside? Or taking the chrome middle piece out and painting it black (like I did). Headlight dispersion is not affected by the later, Note: DO NOT PAINT HIGH-BEAM REFLECTOR, it won't even come out unless you break it so it should be pretty obvious.

^^ do you have a good pic of that?
There's certain legality issues that I have to deal with. I'm planning on doing some angel eyes and I want to make sure that I never want to take apart my headlight again. So i figure I'll just mod whatever I can while I've got them open.
Believe it or not, I do have black on my car too mang! Actually, i just got done painting my IAC black instead of that nickel/annodized color it was before.

no, this is the best I can do.

you're going to be removing/painting the black shaped piece (it'll be chrome when you take it out). NOT the piece that remains on the headlight assembly (in the area where the green arrow points).
that help? I uno..

Uh, i dont know if you've noticed but SOCKS and I have our headlights blacked out. SOCKS also did a DIY on it and that's how i did mine, he also did the corners.
The projection is not bothered at all. I have HIDs and dont even need to use the high beems either since they are so bright. So if you have HIDs dont worry about the light deal, it'll be ok, even if you have the normal ones it wont bother any.
Here are some pics of mine when i had my other bumper.

And when i had my corners blacked out also.

And a pic at night, you can see how bright the HIDs are.
