This is just a question prompted by curiousity. I'm curious if a 3 basecoat application followed by a 2 clearcoat application would be enough to get a nice look out of a Tib (for a price ofcourse)

Ofcourse, sanding and prep work is a given.

i would throw AT least 4 coats of base. i believe mine has 4 and only one coat of clear sad.gif but thats what i get for a crappy 800$ paint job.. o well, still looks good..

def do great prep. work (sanding, body filler, right color primer)

personally if i were to get the tib painted again, i would go with 5 coats base, and probably 3 coats clear.. i was quoted 600$ to spray it from my buddy, hes a body guy who got laid off, and i supply all the paint, clear, and have to prep. it. so all in all would be like a 1300$ job +- couple hundo

Im not sure how that would work. There's only so much you can put on before it starts peeling off!

i just got my rd1 repainted this summer and we sprayed 7 coats for the base and about 4 or so for clear, a good buffing about a week later after letting the paint harden allittle and a good waxing in aobut another week. shines like a mirror.

that was before buffing so you can imagine the shine after that.

alright guys.. about 4 base coats and 5 clear should really make it look like it is dripping wet. unless you want a deeper color texture then go for about 6 base coats and 9 clear. that would literally look like it is still sopping wet with paint. but all in all it would look sweet for a long while
