Alternative to Mesh
Kit-Fox and useful in the same sentence.. blasphemy. But seriously dude, post up those sketches when you get them. That way if they look good we can all copy them maybe. tongue.gif
not that I would want to see something like this cut up.... but you do not need to look only to Ferrari to find an alternative to mesh...

This is a similar grill to what my own spider came with.. it is approximatly six inches high and three feet in width... the cut outs are about three by one inch.

Mad, you have a Fiat Spider? What the!! Those cars are beautiful!
Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking of. Something similar to the WRC. Ferrari has working grills. Ones that have proven results. There's a lot of cool designs out there. But making it work and show is difficult.

here's exactly what i have in mind, a hive. the problem is i would need the holes to be a bit larger. if they would be larger i could carve them or sand them down to be aerodynamic.
black is a good color... as long as there's a grill. you guys are so much help! i was even thinking of taking a radiator or electric heater apart but i think this hive design will work well with the history of the bumper and facilitate well with it's purpose.
it's not something hugely important... just my creative side showing. it just looks bare without a grill. such a cool Bumper and it needs the finishing touch. i will definitely have pics up and you will be able to see my idea at work. but now, to search for this... any ideas on where i can get this design? home depot wouldn't carry anything. if you think of anything i can take apart, please share =)

actually.. that grill wouldn't look too bad.. looks like it came from a Fiat 124 Second Series Coupe.
And yes, I own a spider, I have owned one since I was 18... that is working on 15 years now.. this is my fourth one and they just keep getting older and older.. Soon She will be Lancia Delta Integrale powered (Which is where a lot of my money goes) and a real PITA for all the ricers out there who think they know better.
*EDIT* If you looked at my signiture, it is plain as day that I own a spider... I also own a rare mid-engined sports car most people have never heard of.

^ I know what a delta integrale engine is like. i have a video documentary on it and an owner who bought one for himself and one for his wife. even though I'm only a two car one year guy (1997 Hyundai and SEAT... and will NOT settle for anything else) I wouldn't ever mind picking up a delta.
Ok, so a few trips ago to Florida and here's what I find lying in the back of the shed next to the snakes! I wanted something that reminded me of the World Rally Championship grills. Sure it's gutter mesh, but it's plastic and very aerodynamic. Not only is this better than aluminum, but it lets a lot more air in than any other kind of grill I could find. Sure I could have gotten an 01 grill from another Tiburon and stuck it in there, but I wanted that distinctive rally look. Plus, if you've actually seen the F2 Bumper, the space is fairly small. No need to spend any money on fancy'ing it.

I'm sorry, but this is what Maryland sucky roads do to your car. Can't help one thing. Not only do we get debris and uncleaned potted holed highways, but trucks everywhere. It's ok though because when I get a new paint job in a few years it'll all be smoothened and painted!

By then I will have a good close job with decent money. For now bare with me on this dirty stone chipped mess. Anyways, the grill is the main focus here. For what it is I think it works. It was free!

What do you think? About the F2 paint, sure it's crooked but who's gonna know after a little driving huh? smile.gif

That is the Peugeot 206 WRC grill I tried to follow... I think I came pretty close.
My next step is a trip to The Home Depot to find a material for a lip that will attatch to the F2 Bumper primarily to replicate the Formula 2 Rally Kit Car Catalunya & San Remo spec. It will then be painted to match the color of my car and will act as a guard.

Ok boys!! After walking through the ENTIRE home depot (this includes garden area) I had lost all hope. I hit the gardens, the roofing, carpeting, electrical...doors (they even yelled at me and sent my items back for trying to buy items that they didn't even sell) How embarassing?! I didn't care, it was for my tib.
So I'm walking well into the carpeting section, and here I go... Something rolled up, carpet section and I picked up 1 "Self adhering Wall Vynil" strip. WOW, it was perfect and only cost $3.75.
Ok, so I also buy some red spray paint while I was at it. Perfect match to my car too. Those of you who don't have these common home depot colors to match good luck. Anyhow, I find the shiny kind of wall vynil so that when it's on the car it will look like part of the car.
Forget the self adhering part, this stuff is really good. All it takes is a little bit of creativity. I cut up one strip of vynil using a long metal ruler and a razor into two peices, both a little less than 2 inches tall so that not too much scrapes curbs or streets. I use masking tape to tape the strip line straight. I slit cuts for the mounting bends, then take hot glue (really does the job well) and work my way into bending the mounting lines at a 90ยบ angle. The vynil stuff is perfect for this... next thing you know i've got two "L' shaped skirts! Then I painted both of them. Results came out better than I expected. Tomorrow I'm going to hot glue and clip these two guards together to form a lip just like the Hyundai Kit Car! It'll look similar to what the car was set up in Rallye Catalunya 1999 and San Remo. Finally this is over. I will install tomorrow morning. And I will have photos for you all soon. Sorry, no DIY because I don't know how you guys would react to it. I have to get pics before that. All in all, the whole thing cost me about $7.00 total.
ah yeah, and this is not for everyone. Definitely not because I'm trying to replicate this rally stuff. If you wanted, you could created a lip like this by making and carving a box of this vynil, gluing it all together and architecturally securing it from ever ripping apart. It's not about how crappy it's put together, it's about how architecturally designed and correct it is. This stuff took me 1 hour to do. If you wanted to spend half a day on it imagine what you could come up with. You can even curve the sides if you wanted to...All you would have to do is have a box and supports on the insides.
Here's the lip on the rally car:

Sure it won't be quite as cool (take the ATH lip for example), but at least mine will look more like it should. And since these F2 Bumpers are nothing but fiberglass, they have MAD stone chips as you can see in my pictures in earlier posts on this thread. I want to stop that just a little before it gets any worse.

Ok boys, tell me what you think. Remember, these are taken during the attatchment. the paint was really glossy, looked like part of the body however it got ruined by tape. So it doesn't look nearly as good, so when it's all connected i will repaint it to and it will reflect everything just like the car does. Sure it's not much, but it looks a little more like the tarmac spec rally car. And it only cost $7.
