well my 4-2-1 header came in today,and the duty fee was $103 well i costed me $740 canadian just to get the header to my door,and its not even installed yetum wondering what the cheapest way to install the header would be,is there any way i can relocate the stock cat,because i can't afford a high flow one now.down the line i'll get one but i just want the header installed,i have a muffler,and a strait mid pipe where the resonators were.

i was told by three different muffler shops that there is no such thing as a hi-flow cat.
one shop had a side by side comparison of a supposed hi-flow cat and a stock one and they were the same thing. they told me that it's just a gimmmick.

 

Same thing here, They said that my existing cat on my car was no different than a Hi-flow cat, luckily, I had a cat-bypass that I installed that same day smile.gif

 

Then your muffler shops are full of crap.

High flow cats have fewer internal catalyists, so they reduce exhaust flow less. a "normal" cat has 2 to 5 "catalyst" honeycomb sections in it. A high flow cat will have no more than 2.

The holes in the "catalyst" honeycomb are also larger on a high flow cat vs a "normal" cat.

plantenutz: Don't cheap out on this, if you're gonna do it, do it right the first time, or else you're gonna end up spending more money, or it'll look AND sound all ghetto!
Talk to Verne @ Minute Muffler on main for the install, they do good work, a Hi-flow cat from Piston Ring is around $100-$150 (I think, it's been a while)
You will also need to extend the O2 sensor wires.
And like I said previous, get new piping installed while you're at it. If you can't afford it now, save up! And do it right, the first time. smile.gif

 

Yeah, I took the cheap way out and didnt put a cat on...i thought I got away with robbery for $40 to weld them on. Had to go back the next day and spent $200 to fix it.

 

thanks for reasuring me kai-jay,i am going to pick up my cat at pistin ring then i am going over to minute muffler to get the header and cat,and install it with 2.25 mandrel bent pipeing and i'm keeping my muffler.Well hope all goes well,i'll let u guys know.

 

well the two cats i saw that were cut open and laying on the ground looked to have the exact same internals. also why would the guy not sell me a "performance" cat if i asked for one, if in fact it actually made a difference.

 

GUT the cat. Unbolt it and drive a pipe thru it. Just make sure you get it all out.
