worried about my tranny
hey all...i just bought a 00 tibby, 5spd, with 63000 miles on it...im reading alot of peoples postings about their trannys and it got me kinda worried... ive only had the car a couple of days, hasnt given me any trouble besides the spark plug cables (whole other story). but yeah the tranny?? should i go get it checked out?? im thinking about getting the whole car looked over... what maintenance type things should be done to a 00 tib with 63,000 miles??? thanks

I really haven't heard of many problems with the RD tranny, there is the occasional person that does have issues but mostly it's our GK bastard brother.
If you just bought the car (where'd you get it?), I'd suggest you get it once overed by a mechanic you know and trust, if not Hyundai themselves.

well i just got my tranny replaced at 48,000 miles, but that was because i USED to drive it hard. but you should get the 60,000 checkup if they havent already gotten that done yet. you should still have the 10/100,000 powertrain warrenty so dont worry about it.

the 10yr/100K mile warranty is only for NEW purchases. the powertrain isn't fully transferable. It gets bumped down to 5yr/65,000 miles when the vehicle is purchased used
I would go and get it looked at by Mr. Transmission or something, might cost you some money, but at least you would know
where your tranny stands!
BTW: I had to replace mine 2 months after I bought my car wink1.gif
you never know if the dude before you drove it hard or not.

chances are.. if your tranny is working properly right now... with no grinding, no hard getting into gear.. it was not abused. Change the fluid and you should be good to go. If there had been an internal problem from the factory like mine had, it would have reared it's ugly head by now
