When You Change Your Clutch...
Do you have to drain the gear oil?
I just put Redline synthetic gear oil, and I need a new clutch set soon.
I'm just wondering if I can keep the current oil during the clutch replacement.

once you pull those axles, then if you didnt drain the trans, it will do it for you, on your floor.... you need to drain the trans obviousely.
if you caught it in a clean container, and it doesnt get contaminated with dirt or such, you could reuse it, but i wouldnt recommend it.

I guess I need to buy another set of Redline gear oil. sad.gif
I found a local place to buy the Redline stuff. they sell it for 8 bucks each. laugh.gif
BTW, my new clutch setup is:
South Bend DXD series clutch with Chrome moly flywheel.
I have one more question:
Do I need to buy 35mm crank size? or 41mm?
I have a 2001 tib wich is RD2.
please let me know.
thanks~!!

You don't have to drain it all out, the axles are at the top of the oil level, all I do is pull the axles and let what ever comes out into a drain pan which sould be about a 1/4 of a quart and when the job is done I just top it off, as long as you keep the tranny as level as possible only a minimal amount will leak out while your doing the job. I usually do it on a lift and that makes things a bit easier.
