Everyone always talks about how great oil catch cans are but are there any negative effects to using one too?

I have had a few vacuum leaks on mine but I am also using a cheap air/water seperator that is for air compressors and actually says not for use with oil/fuel. I just replaced with internal o-ring with a thicker one and havn't had any more vacuum leaks. I also wrap the threads with teflon tape every time I dump the fluid but you shouldn't have to do that if you buy one designed for this purpose.
And draining it sucks especially if your car has alot of blow by. I removed my catch can from an old Honda I had cause it would fill up with oil in less than a week so I had to change it often and got tired of doing it. My Tiburon can go a month or more before needing to be changed.
These are the catch cans I built. I don't run that white foam piece inside anymore either.
