What all year elantra transmissions will bolt up to a 97 2.0 tib fx? Btw it is an auto.

Mad-Machine 05-02-2005 06:28 AM

There are a few years that almost exact matches for our cars in body and design. I think 95 through 2000. I could be wrong though, I am not really up on my Elantras. I think it is the "J2" style you are looking for.

Any 96 or newer elantra tranny will work

Mad-Machine 05-02-2005 05:00 PM

Thanks Random.. I was unsure on the later transmissions from the XDs

jmt420 05-02-2005 06:49 PM

so anywhere from 96-05 elantra transmissions will mount perfectly?

Jaws021 05-03-2005 03:17 PM

i know the 03 will work..

you do need to take a grinder and take a bit off the casing just so the mount can sit flush.

As far as the 04 and 05.. im not sure... Should be the same though...

Will those years of elantra also work with the RD2 (2001). I have a junkyard in the area that has an elantra with a manual tranny. I'm thinking maybe I'll do the swap and get rid of my damned auto if it'll work...not sure what year the elantra is to be honest...

PS...sorry if I'm hijacking, just tell me to shut up if I am haha

Mad-Machine 05-03-2005 03:54 PM

Random, any chance you can delve into your bag of statistics and pull out the final drive ratios on the different year manual elantras?

jmt420 05-03-2005 09:06 PM

No hate here, I was going to do the swap to a manual but damn $$$$. I said hell with it.

*Mad Mod Edit* No double posting!*

So the 96-2000 will fit without any grinding or any other type of mods. Just to make sure before I go out and buy one.

albert 05-04-2005 03:01 AM

Don't double post. Edit your original post.

Any AT or MT from a 96-04 Elantra will work.

Regarding grinding being necessary, it depends on which engine mounts you use/keep. It is a VERY small bit, so don't be concerned. Any dremel or grinder can do it in under 60 seconds.

1997tibby 05-05-2005 01:39 AM

would a manual transmission from like an 03-04 4cyl tib, fit a 2.0L tib from a 97-99 tib? because i can imagine that hyundai "changed" somthing with there trans. possibly made it better somehow!!!

Mad-Machine 05-05-2005 07:07 AM

if the same years Elantra transmission fits, the same years Tiburon should also. Just so long as it is the transmission made for the Beta, not the Delta engine. And no, I doubt Hyundai changed a thing in these transmissions except maybe the gear ratios. There is no reason for them to change anything, it makes no economic sense to fix what is not broken.

The casing is different between 02 and 03 elantra..

remember the mounting system is different.

We have a center cross brace.

If my current tranny blows,... ill be looking for an 04. I also think hyundai did something to the tranny. Maybe a more dependable differential.
