ok ill explain how it started
i was in a parking lot um ahhh "practicing" for autox by setin up shopping carts and goin around them
all of a sudden i started hearin a loud "tic tic tic" sound from the engine
its pretty loud
it sounds like its coming from the head but im not sure
any ideas?
oil level is clean
maybe i should just make a beta1.5 engine...

How hard were you pushing the car? Doing lots of high speed tight cornering can push all the oil out of the head, starving it. Filling it up a little over the "F" on the dipstick can help prevent this when you go to AutoX events.

Had the same probelm when i went autox. The HLA's are not lubricated well after autox, so i added in a bottle of oil and ran the car for 10 mins and everything was fine after that.

I had a terrible problem with TICKs, my engine begun to Tick a while ago and I was really surprised because it has only 55,000 Km on it, a little early for the HLA's to go... anyway I changed all 16 of them, and FV_k the noise continued... I was very desapointed... the mechanic told me it had to be the oil pump... so I got a new one and changed it, it was just this last friday and thanks to it I could get into the AutoX on saturday! (I decided I wasn not taking any chances going with a dmaged oil pump) and it was all nice and clean when suddenly after my hard lap, the ticking returned... but after a few minutes it went away again, so... hamhead and hotrod are right... however, if your HLA's make noises when you rev your engine to high revs... such as 4500rpm and above, in a straight line, chances are it's your oil pump.
How much more oil do you consider is OK to add for Autocrossing? 1/8 is enough? Or 1/4? also, what disadvantages will you have if you don't drain the excess oil?

question do any of you have an oil-cooler? i i noticed with mine if i run it hard as hell and teh oil is durty it will tick and after awhile it will go away.. if you guys are autox you got to change the oil after your done because the oil gets contamit + at thoese temps the oil is more like water think.. an thicker oil may be needed i run 15-50 in my car and after a week or two of "Playing" it's time to change it again.
also try motor flush to help dislodge any crap that might be cloging up the lifters..
what do you all think>?
