Default Is This True?

My friend at work brings in a lot of magazines. In one of them there was a interview with this guy who had a 94 25th Transam. Anyway the guy said that it was an automatic and then he said "Yes it's an automatic but can your 6 speed mutiple torque and get you into the power band faster?" Is that true that the automatic can mutiple torque and get you into the power band faster?

yes and NO

Gearing multplies Torque. You make more Torque in first gear than in 5th.

No, an automatic does not get you into your powerband faster....GEARING gets you into your power band faster....which can be done with either an automatic or Manual...

The new Trans-am / Camaro have a special transmission. It is only available in these cars. If you go down and ask a dealership which is faster in the 1/4 mile they will tell you that the auto is faster.

As for the multiplying torque, I will try to find an article in a mag for you to explain what he is talking about.
