Transmission dead?
I haven't seen a topic on this yet, so I thought I'd ask.
I bought my 01 Tib back in May. It only had less than 40k miles on it. In August, my transmission went. I have an automatic, and it wouldn't catch 3rd gear while I was coming out of a toll on the NJ parkway. I drove it to my destination, struggling. Once I got there, I had the nearest Hyundai dealer tow it to their service shop. It took 4 weeks for them to repair it. I asked them why my trans had went, and they couldn't give me an answer. The first trans they ordered to repair my car with, it was defective. The 2nd one works fine now.
Is it typical for 01 Tibs to have their trans go every 3 years or a certain amount of miles? Was damage done by probably the dumbass original owner? I don't know, I'd just like to know if it was because of abuse or if this is something to watch out for and expect.
Thanks. smile.gif

word is that the auto tranny's that hyundai use(d) suck ass. some last a while... while some sh1t the bed real early. The previous owner might have been real rough on it. but, at least the tranny went while under warranty. since you're not the original owner, you only had up to 60k miles. so good for you. laugh.gif be glad you got free stuff. free stuff rocks

I would have gotten manual, but where I live, it's NOTHING but traffic. I have no patience to constantly switch gears, lol. Plus, I'm always in a hurry and I can't fixate my mind on switching gears. I have to fixate my mind on cutting people off, haha.
I bought my 01 Tib with 2700 miles on it. When the odometer hit 55K, it started making a "clicking" noise. I went to Hyundai, they couldn't diagnose it, other than saying it was the transmission. They replaced that one under warranty. 25K later, that auto is going bad, making a similiar noise. Now that it is out of warranty, I am in the process of doing a 5-speed swap.
RD2 Tiburon automatics suck ass.

My auto has 38000 miles on it and I had one problem with it driving it hard. bought it with 34000 on it, but I doubt the original owner drove it hard because it was all stock and had the cheap oil in it I changed my transmissin fliud when I got it because it was black 8O 8O and it runs realy nicely
What kind of maintenance do you recommend to be done on a 25K mile automatic tranny? I don't have my manual in front of me, but the minimum reommended interval for a flush/filter change on most cars is 30K miles. I know of no other maintenance that can be performed.
I treated this trans like a baby, and it takes a crap on me sooner than the one that was treated normally. I am hoping for better results with the manual.
--NEVER hand-shifted
--NEVER abused
--Filter changed and fluid flushed on schedule (the one that lasted long enough to see it)
