Hey, I have a 2000 Tib with a five speed manual. I just switched from a Honda Del Sol to the Tib, and noticed that the shifter is extremely vague and loose. I can jiggle the thing about an inch in each direction while in gear, something I'm not used to coming from my Honda. I was wondering if there is some way to eliminate this feeling, like tighten it up or something. Thanks.

Welcome to the site.

Yup, you can tighten up the shifter cables a bit to get rid of the slack.

Best thing to do would be to get a GOOD short throw shifter like the RSide Advanced from Kspec.com Do a search here mang, it's the best available. Then install it, and tighten up your cables a bit.

There are also plastic bushings on the bottom of the shifter. That's most likely the problem.

Yeah, those R-Side shifters are really a good improvement, if not THE best improvement. I have the R-Side basic and it rocks.
There was a DIY mod that was published on the UK board by JONGTR or somebody else with a user name like that. I copied it and can e-mail the thing to you.
REDZ, can I send you that file so you can upload it? I can't upload pictures (f*ck firewall at the office) and the text with no pics is kind'a useless.

absolutley there is alot you can do to change the shifting.

do a search and you will find a few topics on how to adjust the cables.

but if there was a problem, i would guess its the white cap the controls the shifters left to right movement, it may fall off if the cap is not greased properly, or enough. thus causing an extreme play in the shifter.

my shifter has about a half inch play left to right, and about a quarter inch up and down.

but i do have the advanced R Side short shifter, but i customized it a little more after i installed it, but thats a secret mod, and my shift throw from first to second is 4 and a half inches.

if you dont want to search go here www.hmaservice.com/webtech, and you can find the vehicles entire step by step instruction manual on how to repair replace and do maintainence on every single part of the car.
