hey guys!

Well I am looking for a new Manual Tranny for my boost 04 tib. I heard that the elantra tranny's are stronger than the tibs, is this true? is it also true that the elantra tranny has better gear ratios for boost? What year is the best elantra tranny to get? will my tib axels fit in the elantra tranny without any problems? or where could i get some stronger axels? Also will my 04 tib clutch work with say an 02 or 03 elantra tranny?

I have about $3000 for a new tranny swap. Can anyone lay out some options that would help my tranny hold some HP?? I really dont want to be forking out money for a stock tranny that is going to break some time soon...

Does anyone know if it is possible to just switch out the tib gearbox with the elantra one? so i can keep the same stock housing? that might be a cheaper option.

I just dont know what to do about my weak a$$ tranny.. any help would be appreciated..

Thanks
Andrew

The Elantra Trans is the same one you have in your 04. Both use the beta2 motor and transmission. So basically any 01-current elantra trans or any 03-current 4cyl Tiburon transmission.

I don't think I saw it in his post, but what kind of engine do you have? If it's a beta the transmissions should fit, if it's a delta then you are SOL. There is a place that makes custom high HP CV shafts in Arizona, my boss got some made for his car. They do any type of drive axles. I'll try and get the name for you.

He is turbo and I believe has at least a semi built motor. Has the beta2 non CVVT from what I remember. Clutch should be the same for you also.

For 3k here is what I would do.

Get a low mileage trans
Nice clutch if you dont have one
Quaife LSD
Axles if you have money to spare

If you search there is a thread posted by Spiffywerks. It is asking for places that make stronger axles. It was used to find some for APEs drag car which is in the 10s. There was a couple companies mentioned. There was a 500hp set and a 900hp set if I remember correctly.

/\

I am turbo on a 04 vvt 2.0L tiburon. With low-comp pistons, head work, stock rods, stock crank, stock cams, a precision turbo T3 super 60 (16 psi for now...) I know that i can just buy another tranny and put an lsd in there, but i would like to beef it up a little so she wont poop out on me later again...anyone know where i can get some treated gears or some stronger forks...

anyone know if any other gearboxes will fit in our tranny's? mitsu? nissan?

Not really. Some Mitsu ones are close but not enough. Where did yours fail? We have seen much higher boost on these transmissions and the only thing that usually fails is the clutch. As for stronger gears, I believe there are some available in Korea. MadJohn would be the resource for that but he hasnt let us in on any that we can get. Otherwise maybe having the gears cryotreated would help make them stronger. Thats really the only options we have.

I'm not sure what has failed on her yet. but i lost 2nd 4th and rev.... It all happened when i was just cruising home from getting some pizza... she just blew out all of a sudden.. im gonig to pull her out next week after exams... ill post pics of the condition she is in.. i was just thinking of buying an elantra tranny and swaping out what went bad in mine... maybe send everything out to get cryo treated... and put an LSD in there... i have no clue why she blew out.. i know they can hold more power... must have gotten a lemon...
