So I'm driving along and have to get over while in traffic, to do so I just dropped a gear and gave it a little gas. Next light I stop at my car is idling at 2,500RPM sad.gif. Get back to the house and found one vacuum leak and a kinked hose going to the Idle Air Solenoid(?). So I get those fixed and test it out, runs great. So I throw some tools in the car JUST incase and head for a car show. I get two miles down the road and stop to and check on everything, seems to run fine. I get 60 feet down the road and the car goes wide open throttle... I was able to turn it off and make it back in one piece.

So far I have changed the TPS with one from our parts car, and the IA Soleniod(?). Checked plugs and all that. Theres no CEL... I have no idea whats wrong with it... Only remote guess I have is that both of the TPS's are bad.

Any help would be great... Need to get this fixed before the 30th so I can make it to the Texas Meet.

Check the throttle cable and cruise cable. Make sure neither are touching/rubbing anything, and that they are both secured tightly (they are adjusted by 2 nuts behind the IM, between the IM and firewall). I had a problem like this after I installed my airram, it was because the cables were getting caught on one of my hoses, but only sometimes.

Otherwise, get a Kefico TPS, you'll need one sooner or later anyway.

Check the cables and check your idle air screw. Mine came lose and was redlining on its own, make sure the lock nut is tight on it.o

TPS is a Kefico. Not saying it couldn't be messed up.

Don't have cruise control anymore(completly removed).

Throttle Cable is good.

Idle screw is set and tight.

Throttle Adjustment is set.

PCV valve is working.

No vacuum leaks.

Reseted ECU multiple times.

If it helps any this is my current setup:
Airram
Rside 61MM(?) BBTB
AEM Intake
Stage 1 Clutch
Cat back

I don't know of anything else it can be other then the Idle air thing or TPS. I have had my dad look at it... but it doesn't act up when he's driving it sad.gif.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

How about the big hose going to the airram, remember when patreezy had issues with that kinking once in awhile?

have you double checked all that stuff? i dunno man..especially since you have an airram, that means most of the things that would cause a problem like this have been customized by you (if that makes sense)

Yes it was kinked, I replaced it with a piece of reinforced hydraulic hose. I've checked on it and made sure it didn't rekink and it hasn't.

I know what your saying, but I have had it for months now without any problems.

I double and triple checked everything. Even tested wiring and connections.

Thanks

I'd lean towards the TPS. Get a brand new one from Autozone and return it if it doesn't fix the problem.

Again, readjust your idle. make it to where your cruise cable is loose and floppy, then tighten it slowly till it's almost taut.

Then use the idle adjustment screw for the rest.

I'm leaning towards a vaccum leak other than TPS, check ALL of your fittings in the engine bay, retorque all of your airram nuts. Check your gaskets, and make sure you are using TIGHT fitting vacuum nipple covers on the vacuum fittings you DO NOT NEED.

The simple colored plastic ones will leak, get the hardcore rubber ones.

You can also try some zip ties to hold them on tight. Other than that pictures mang, let us SEE.

Rechecked everything, including what redz has listed^. Then I took it out for a test drive... worked fine, I couldn't believe it, so I got to thinking.... It worked fine before until I needed to give it some power, so I tested that, just dropped down one gear and floored it. 5th to 4th at 50 until I hit 55 and it started the problem again. I left it running so I could try and find the problem, and when I opened and closed the throttle body it was fine. So we took it apart and found that the bearing on the throttle shaft was suppose to be a press in kind, but the one in it wasn't... After we nurled(?) the where the bearing went it started working great.

Thanks to everyone for the help smile.gif
