Re: Installed intrax today :)
without looking at my pulley.. It is hard to tell you directly.. but with the number 1 piston at Top Dead centre.. There should be a pair of dots on the head.. if you use the centre of the cam as the centre of the clock.. one will be approxiatly at 2 and the other directly opposite at 8. There are a pair f matching dots (drilled holes really) on the cam pulley that line up with these.. There is also another that appears to aim directly up when the other dots are lined up with each other.

Or if you havent jumped a tooth on the timing belt, just replace it the same as it came off.. Make marks w/ white out or something like that incase you move it..

Re: FS: Custom COLORED Shift Boots!
Ok the timing belt is a bit tricky
Do you have the engine out?
Did you pull out the crank pulley?
If so..
You probably figured out how to set the crank timing.. line up the mark with the line
For the cams..
The cam pulley is like a small 5 star rim..
On one of the spokes.. theres a little whole..
keep turning it into its almost pointing straight up... your not down.. your just near the ballpark.
Ok
Behind the cam pulley you will see a line. On most beta engines it has been a pink line.
You are supposed to be able to see that pink line looking at through the whole from a straight distance.
At this time you will also see a line on the right side near some division in the head(cant remember exactly which, i think its valve cover... all i remember its the end of some metal plate on the outside)
LIne that up as well...
Your head and your crank should now be at top dead center..
Your not done yet..
Remember to make sure the timing belt is nice and tight on the right side. The left side is adjustable, but the right side isnt.
When your installing the timing belt.. if you find yourself between two teeth on the cam.. then chances are your slightly off on the timing.
You should be able to install the belt nice within clearance on the right side with not much of a hassle.
To adjust the left side..
stick a screwdriver and pry it against one of the engine mounts (engine side inside the valve cover)
Pry and push/pull the timing belt tensioner pulley in towards the timing belt to get it nice and tight.
Tighten it
Your done
Its a 14mm bolt
The crank bolt is a 22mm i think
the cam is a 17mm
All the little valve cover bolts are 10mm
Good luck
If you are uneasy doing this... take it to a mechanic
The hyundai shop manual doesnt help much either
i learned to do this through random.
good luck man

Are you talking the line on the lower timingbelt cover? It says 10 BTDC?
10 BTDC

Something like this?? I can't remember completely without looking.
Then line up which one? And line it up the the crank pulley? I noticed there is a mark or a little notch in the crank pulley.

Re: random pics worth posting
ok that TDBC means your 10 degrees back
Line it up with the "T"
The crank actually has three pulleys..
One for the timing belt
One for the AC
One for the alternator/water pump
The timing belt pulley i believe has a white mark that you can line up with a line (which is visable if the timing belt cover is removed)
Once you get the other pulley in...
Well while its out.
Check for those two notches.
Theres 2 notches on the edge of one of the pullies (i think its the ac one)..
Anyways....
Those are the ones..
Line that up RIGHT under the "T" and there you go
REmember
TDBC is 10 degrees
The line in the middle is 5
the line in front (first on the right) is the one..
good luck
