Okay, I did my cam swap the other day, and we had a few issues getting things lined up correctly. I love the feel of them above 4000 RPM, but under that, something just seems wrong, and I'm almost 100% positive it's NOT the cams, but my installation. I'd like to get this fixed before I hit the dyno again.
When we were placing the cams back in and getting them pointing the right direction, the front of the car was jacked up in the air so we could get under and look at the crank pulley. So instead of the engine head being like this...

It was more like this

What's this mean? Well, when we set the marks on the cam sprockets we set them facing straight up from the GROUND LEVEL, not in relation to the head level (it was hot as hell out, we'd been working for hours, weren't thinking right), so I'm thinking the timing is advanced or retarded by about 5 to 10 degrees.
Anyone got some advise for me, or know what I should do to correct all of this?

cam sprockets right?
you arent talking about the cam gear are ya? cause i know, and am pretty sure you know, that there is a spot on the head you have to line up the gear with. the sprockets i have no clue.

Yeah. There are some little index marks on the sprockets, that are supposed to be straight up with a level engine head. The head was tilted back, and we put them in, straight up, level with the ground.
Actually, I think you just helped me solve this. They are DEFINITELY off, I'll fix it on Friday, unless I get the chance today.

Yeah the marks will be on a angle with the head, and if you look through the inspection hole on the cam sprocket it will have the red line right in the middle. If I get a chance I will take a picture of what I'm talking about.

having things point just straight up sounds weird. usually there is always a mark that needs to be lined up with another.
Not on the cams. We even looked in the Shop Manual. the cams get 4 links inbetween them (Not 5, it's 5 if you count the inside links), and the index marks go straight up. There is a marking on the timing belt sprocket, and I remember us talking about something on that looking off.
ABQ, you remember?
There are two marks on the cam gear that go parralell to the head as well as those marks on the sprockets that go straight up and then have cylinder one at tdc, but yes REDZ we deffinately set your timing a little off. LOL my ass worried about it and we still did it. We rock!
