Hey guys i got couple questions about timing belt ok so i was driving around everything was good but couple days ago i felt like something is wrong , i checked oil and i had lil bit of oil on the tip i was like WTF?
so today at work i start checking everything and found that oil is coming from under timing belt cover , i took it off and it's this half round seal pooring oil from there . ok so i'm gonna change valve cover gasket and those seals . Here's questions i saw that i got alot of oil on crankshaft pulley and from there it was on timing belt not alot but you can feel it, is it really bad that oil got on timing belt????
and second question when i pulled the car into the garage turned it off and when i opened the timing belt cover my right side of timing belt was loose like really loose then after i knew where was the oil leak i start the car without timing belt cover and then when i turned it off again, same side that was loose was tighen perfect ??? is that normal or not???
and if not lol what can it be
even tho car have 101000 timing looks good smile.gif

get a tune up involving a timing belt swap. Pay someone if you are worried about completing it yourself.

btw, your timing belt should be changed at 60k (in a perfect world)

I'd get as much off as you can, you don't want the timing belt slipping off and finding out how much a pain in the ass an interference motor is.

And belts wear from the inside out normally, if the outside looks good doesn't mean the belt is not degraded. I'd change it, for simple piece of mind that its not going to break and screw the entire head of the motor up.

Oil is bad on belts.. it can eat them. If you already have to pull the belt to replace the seal, just do it. The Peace of mind is worth the effort.

when i changed mine at around 80k miles, it was clean and no crack at all.

BUT!

you will never know when the belt is going to snap and BOOM~!!!

I would say every 60K is safe for the belt!

it is always better to be safe than sorry.

That's right. Do you think it will be a easy DIY or better leave it to professional?

My car has done 146k when I got it and now it has 160k. I suppose the previous owner has changed it @ 120k so it's time now for a new one. smile.gif
