So I'm not really sure here. The car shifts fine (although it can be a pita to get into reverse) and doesn't make any sort of noise but lately when I'm starting out and shift into 2nd it feels as though the clutch is still pushed in a bit. It's a bit sluggish feeling. I think I'm just wishing here, but is there any chance it just needs new tranny fluid? I know it's overdue for a fluid change. The car has about 90k and it's still the original fluid I believe. I bought it with 65k and have been meaning to change it ever since. If I change the fluid and it's still not working will I loose the new fluid when swapping out the clutch? Do any of the big name stores (ie. Autozone, Advanced Auto, NAPA, ect...) carry any worthwhile fluid?

I've been reading a bunch of clutch posts here, and I can't decide if I can take on installing a new clutch!

Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, I did use the search function and got lots of good info...

I'd recommend replacing the clutch fluid, and be sure you bleed it right! I'm guessing it's a bleeding problem, so that may fix you up right there. But new clutch fluid (I believe either redline mt-90 or a purple power (?) product is the best) never hurts.
And yes, most stores should carry it.

 

Where does the tranny engage? theres a chance that with the clutch fully pressed that the clutch is still partially engaged, i had this problem before, you can adjust the engage zone of the clutch by loosening the nuts on the pedal and adjusting the rod.

 

It engages at about 1/4 of the way out. How does one go about adjusting the rod, and what is the rod... I'm a bit ignorant when it comes to the clutch.

Is there a how to for bleeding a clutch? and does the clutch have it's own fluid or is it the transmission fluid?

If u help him u will be helping me coz I have almost the same problem only i can here scrapping sound when I start the car and it seems to b from the clutch. and my 3rd gear is always giving me a problem... Changing down from 5th to 4th somethimes I hear a slight grinding noise but vice versa no problems.

Is it fluid or is it the clutch the clutch itself is about 9 months to a year old can it be finished so soon?

 

Yah, I have the same problems sometimes, I think I just needa change the clutch fluid though. I know everyone says its easy, but I think it would be nice to have a STICKY DIY of clutch fluid change, for future refrences.

P.S. Sometimes my reverse is a PIA to get into also but all I usually do is let the clutch out and and press it again and it usually goes in the second time.

 

I did explain it, on the clutch pedal there is two nuts that are attached to the "rod" which is actually the "con-rod" part of the piston that drives the master cylinder.

you loosen the nuts and spin the rod one way or the other to adjust the play.

Go out to your car and climb under the dash with a flashlight and look at the clutch pedal, youll see what i mean.

whenever i have problems going into reverse, i usually put it in 1st gear, move ahead maybe an inch or two, then put it back in reverse. always works for me.

That's what I usually do as well, is this a normal thing or is it an indication of issues? Does reverse have syncros?


Well I tried to change the trans fluid but I couldn't get the old fluid out! I had it jacked in the back and all that fun stuff. The only other thing I could thing of doing is pumping it out.
