Uhhhh......take the butterfly plate out? eek!

Hrm, this is a hard one to explain. Ummmm...well, you know how the air all comes in through the throttle body? And when you press the gas pedal, it opens the plate to let more air in?

Well, when you don't want to be moving, the plate is closed, and all of the air is going through your idle air bypass. As you open it more, the engine spins faster.

Soooo....imagine now that you take the plate out. There's nothing to stop the air. If you could even get the sucker to start, it would want to rev all the way up to maximum, immediately. Except---whoops! The throttle position sensor says it's closed, so it's not going to add enough fuel to rev that high. Hrm, you've just gone way lean. And it's sort of hard to put the car in gear while you're bouncing off the rev limiter.

Unless you're thinking of something else? Idle air bypass perhaps? wink

WOOPS THATS IT!

*hope red doesn't tear me a new asshole for making a simple mistake*

i read it and they said DONT TAKE THE BUTTERFLY PLATE OUT

now mechanix i know the celica has the idle air bypass thingy there so when your driving around doing less than 30mph it would be a little more fuel friendly(how friendly do they want it already rolleyes.gif )

now if you take this out, they said it will increase a little low end but will cause kaka starts but not to the point where you have to try 2wice to start it.

is this true? i really want to try this on my friends car to see what happens but i don't want to end up on judge judy for this stupid crap

Uh...you read it and it says NOT to take the butterly out. But you want to take the butterfly out and try it anyway? Or are you refering to removing the Idle air Bypass device?

If so, I hope you make sure that only FILTERED air goes into the engine. And 2-3 HP on a dyno isn't worth a crappy idle and bad starts to me.

they said don't mess with the butterfly but ofcoarse since i can't read i thought it said
*take the butterfly out*

well i told him and showed him last night what could be done and he said ok but 5 chickened out 5 min later
