Default Straight through or chambered?

I want to put in a new muffler on my Accent and I was wondering if anyone has any preferences to either a straight through canistor style muffler or a chambered one? I heard a magnaflow chambered on my buddys celica and it sounds pretty good. I want a deep rumble not a weed wacker sound.

I have a Magnaflow on my accent. Not a catback just the muffler. Sounds very deep not buzzy at all i would recomend that for sure.

I'm a musician. It bugged me that my intake and exhaust were slightly off tune. So I put an extension to my SRI to make it more flat thus now it matches the tone of the exhaust exactly smile.gif

All the Accent videos in my profile are of a straight through design.

chambered will always be restrictive but you will never know how that sounds exactly until you try it out. and you only have 1 shot at it or else it would be like fitting shoes at a shoe store.

straight through is always the way to go when investing in an exhaust. but given our engines are only 2.0L, it will almost always sound like weed wackers unless you have a stock header.

i don't know about accents, but on tiburons i've heard, the absolute best setup is: KFX/Megan 4-1 header, apexi exhaust, and 1.8L cam. there are a lot of things you can do but it all depends on your setup. 80% of the time you're always going to get the same sound, unless you do something with the headers or use glasspacks. even with glasspacks, you're not going to get a better sound unless the headers are something weird. turbocharged cars always sound great because their manifolds are different. so from my experience, it all depends on exhaust manifold.

as far as the muffler goes, magnaflows will always sound good but again, it mainly depends on headers. i had ricey sound pushing 2nd gear with a 28'' glasspack and magnaflow, so i threw in a second glasspack and it completely got rid of the problem.

I will always go chambered...gives a nice deep tone at all times...the restrictivness is BS it doesn't matter...it will never be anything noticable...

it'll likely sound like one of these two euro tiburons. not much you can do to make it sound any different.

From what I could find, the quietest straight-through muffler ever is Borla PRO XS. Search for info in it. I have one, it was pretty cheap and it was a world of difference from the other cheapo straight-through muffler I had before. It sounded good both with stock exhaust manifold and with the turbo.

A GOOD chambered muffler like Dynomax Super Turbo would probably be quieter though. I would probably go that route if I would do it again, I doubt the performance difference would be noticeable.
