Stock Exhaust Question
#2
I think in some states removing your cats are illegal. I heard someone at a muffler shop say that removing them don't add additional hp like everybody says. But that is just what I was told. I'm sure someone can give more help than that.

DONT DO IT. Its a federal violation to run without a cat. Not to mention your car will emit as much emissions as 50 mack trucks. Its not worth the .5hp you'll gain.

On some cars a cat can be a bottle neck in an exhaust system. OBDII cars like ours can get clogged cats relatively easy since they run really rich at WOT and are smaller than that of the OBDI cars before us. Running nitrous a lot will eventually glow our cats red and pretty much destroy it so removing it is one option but probably not the best solution. I recommend replacing the cat with a high-flow unit like a carsound, cat-co, magnaflow cat, etc. One might gain only a few hp's but it's better than stock and will withstand the exreme exhaust temp. of a turbo, nitrous or sc (and you won't be a polluter either )

If you just remove the cat and leave the same config, I suspect there shd not be much gains in hp. If you remove the cat and extractor, perhaps the gain cld be substanial. just my opinion.

Yeah, removing the cat on a stock exhaust alone won't do anything except possibly cause trouble?
You'll notice the most benefits of CHANGING the cat if you have other exhaust work done.
