Hello again everyone,

I will be doing a Beta II trans swap (05 elantra trans with 26k) soon and need to get rid of my ebay 6 puck clutch since when I had to swap transmissions from my 2.0 (housing cracked and was leaking gear oil) to my 1.8 the rivets that mount the friction pucks were just starting to scuff on the pressure plate and flywheel. Sorry for the run on sentence, lol.

Also, the ebay clutch engages waaaay late, the pedal is only 1-1.5" away from the top when it finally engages. That is caused by the thin disc I am talking about. The clutch has 18k on it and is worn out. It doesn't slip at all, but the rivets contacting the pressure plate and flywheel are enough to cause concern.

Anyway, I really don't want to spend any money on a new clutch as I have bought way to much for the tib lately.

I was wondering if my stock clutch would hold up to my NA tib with 156 whp and 137 ft/lbs?

Reason is when I first bought the car it had a BRAND NEW clutch. I pulled it out less than a 1000 miles later and replaced it with the ebay clutch. So it would be a free swap.

I don't really shift all that fast anymore with the azenis because they don't chirp anyway. And I was planning on babying the new trans to keep it shifting smooth.

I was also pondering using my ebay pressure plate with the stock clutch disc to increase clamping force. Do you guys think that would work?

So what do you think?

Thanks in advance,

Tyler

Stock clutch will handle up to around 170whp unless the clutch is already beaten to crap or you clutch drop it every weekend smile.gif

Thanks tanc. I read that somewhere here already.

I was really hoping someone could describe to me the feel of the stocker. When it engages (pedal position), how hard it grabs, can I still spin the tires if I stomp it in first at 4k?

It has just been an ETERNITY since I have driven the tib with a stock clutch.

Thanks for any info.

Well your a bit confused about the pedal position when it engages, thats all adjustable right at the clutch pedal, theres two nuts you can play with (har har) to adjust the engage point

The stocker i had was used for about 40,000 before i boosted and it lasted about 8 months at 5psi with a 50% combination of hard driving and regular driving.

Held up pretty good, i peel out pretty good considering the power it had to deal with and the fact it was a stock clutch. It never slipped during normal operation just toward the 6-8 months i wasnt able to peel out at all, so i knew i had to swap her.

Im pretty sure 5psi will give you somewhere in the neighbor hood of 180whp, contingent on a bunch of factors but thats a solid rule of thumb

Well, those two nuts at the pedal only adjust where your pedal actually sits in the cab, you can't adjust a hydraulic clutch's engage point, the fluid fills the gap instead of a threaded tube in a cable clutch.

Thanks for the info alex!! Now I know I should be fine to install the virtually new stock clutch and it should last about a year, which should be enough time for me to get my turbo grocery list completed.

That description is exactly what I was looking for, I can't wait to have a smooth engaging clutch and much longer gears (the 1.8 trans I have is at 60 @ 3k, the beta II 05 elantra is supposedly at 68 @ 3k).

Thanks again, more inputs are surely welcome!
