So I am changing the spark plugs on the ole Jeep Liberty (P.O.S.) and, just as these things go, I get to the last one... Nothing seemed abnormal till I start to pull it out and I hear what kind of sounded like a miniature glass shattering and pebbels fallngs into the hole. I get the socket out and all that was in there was the tip that gets the electric current. I looked into the hole and there are millions of tiny pieces of ceramic in the hole owned.gif , the socket part of the plug is still in the hole so nothing has fallen into the block.

You guys know any way to get these things out?! I have tried three kinds of tape... and chewing gum (I know that that was bad, but there is none of the gum in there). Any other recommendations? Will it hurt the engine if some of that falls down into the hole?

Did you know that spark plug resistors are valued by carjackers in certain counties? Its the only thing that is guaranteed to shatter a window on the first toss. Even a hammer won't do that ... so yea, it a bad thing. Try putting a shop rag over the hole loosely and blow lightly some compressed air into the depression. That should pull anything loose out. Just be sure and where some safety goggles, not just glasses and go easy with the air.

Good luck ...

I got it all.

Went to a neighbor who just happened to have an air compressor. So I blew everything out. Got the rest of the plug out. Then I started the caar with the new plug out just to let the compression blow anything that miht have fallen in there out (hopefully). I let it run for a few minutes and it seems fine. No rough idle or anything... so I guess I'm good to go. Guess we will see in the next day or so. fing02.gif
