Shifting Question

Got a 99 tubby with 64dkm (that's 40k miles for the non Km countries).
Now I don't really have a problem with shifting, only when the car is cold, just started the shifting seems to be smoother then when it's hot. When it's cold the gears seem to just slide in, but when it's hot it feels like you have to push it some more. It makes no sounds or anything, and it's not that you have to shove the knob into gear but it just noticed me.
So I wondered do I need to change the gearoil or something. Would this maybe solve the 'problem' and can I do it myself ?

change it that is your best bet. i cant hurt anything + u can see the condition of your tranny. smile.gif

Flushing the tranny isn't hard, and can't do anything bad for the tranny. 40k miles is a decent number, for a manual its getting about time to do it anyway.

So what do I need and how do I do it.

Do I need some kind of tranny fluid ? And how much.

On a manual tranny it is really easy. There is a drain plug on the side of the tranny (22mm I believe). Drain it all then put the bolt back in. Then on the front there is a fill plug (17mm I believe). Take the bolt out and either use gravity or a pump to fill it. Fill the fluid high enough that it drips out a little from the fill hole. Let it drip until nothing is coming out of the fill hole then put the bolt back in. The RD/RD2's use 2.15 quarts.
