i have been looking up on shifter base bushings that are sold for the GKs and heard that they have helped alot, kinda like the shifter linkage bushings, and i will look at my shifter tommorow, but i was wondering if there would be any interest for em.

i am redoing my linkage, and as much of the shifting system as i can, including kartboy shifter linkage bushings, slave cyl. mod, a new bushing in the actual shifter, and maybe shifter base bushings.

my dad can make some new delrin bushings if we need some and if there is interest.. and can be done relatively cheap.

as i said, i will look at the shifter tommorow and check it out. i will definately be doing mine if we have the base bushings, and getting a new bushing made for the shifter.

I need some, that's for sure. I need something to take up the slack on the left to right motion of the shifter.

mine wobbles left to right too much, i could use something to take up the slack.

 

Mine has to much play also. i'd be intrested in a bushing that would take that play away

The bushing that gives a lot of the side ways play is the 1 on the pivot of the linkage the actuates the 2nd shift cable. It's the same type as the bushings in the body of the shifter (where the big bolt goes through), but it's located where the bolt goes through the linkage.

 

I just changed a couple weeks ago the plastic bushes (they are more like washers actually; the whiteones on the shifter itself) in my wife's 98 Elantra and guys, the shifter is A LOT quieter, it recovered a "like new" feeling although it has the std. shifter; I strongly recommend you do that; and change all of them, the one on the bottom acts in the right-left movement, the to upper ones act on the front-rear movement.
If you want a tighter "feel" on the center position, then you have to change the spring, which beleive it or not wears also. However if you want a tight feeling, you could look for an aftermarket spring because the OEM is not too strong anyway.

I did this change at the same time I changed the linkage bushings (totally worn) for the Flyryde poly bushings; so the maybe it's the combination that gave me that "like new" feel.

 

^^ my spring tension is fine, my shifter is floppy left to right because there's too much play on the bottom linkage. it kinda lifts up and falls down. Also I think the plastic piece that actuates left to right would be useful too.

 

If the bottom linkage is loose, then you need to replace thoe bushings in it.
