Seriously lost here!
Okay I own a 03' Tib GT and am looking for some modifications. I want to change out the exhaust, here is whatI am needing more knowladge on. The piping comes from the header down under the car, and about under the back seats, it basically slits into two mufflers. Well what I want it a performance gain, as well as a more deeper sound. Well what exactly do I need to buy. Take a Zigen Fireball exhaust for example. Should I just buy to of the exhausts for $200 a pop each and install them. I was told just putting on the mufflers will not give me a performance gain. Or can i buy two full cat back ehasuts for $500 each. This is where I get a little confused. If there is basically only one pipe coming from the header, then I only need one cat-back ehaust right? Then if that's true here is what I would like done if possible. Can I buy one cat back ehaust and one muffler, and have them both installed. Because just buying one cat back will leave an empty whole on my bumper. So can you buy the full Cat-back exhaust and one rear muffler section have them molded together to work? Totally new at this so sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance to everyone that replies.

holy hell man... i think your figures are way the hell off there. the RS CAI is the best CAI, for the least amount of cash. (dyno charts to prove it too).

Give SR alittle time...they have a header back system coming out, which will give way more power then having pipes fabricated and mufflers welded on...the system i saw is stainless steel and looks really nice...it will give u sound and performance....for now u should take out the intake resonator...I helped out ItaliaTib2k3 do this on his 03' and it was easy...took about 1hr or so.
The "dual" exhaust of the new tibbys are a POS. It is a classic example of last minute, "duals look cool".. let's make it fit "engineering". I would be embarrased to admit that I worked as an engineer at Hyundai. I have NEVER seen anything worse.
Somebody is bound to design a better cat back. Don't even bother just changing the mufflers. Where the single pipe "splits" into two pipes is a nightmare of, bend it, and pound it with a hammer, till it fits design.
I think that the best design would have the pipes split immediately after the converter and then run parallel over the rear suspension then split into a pair of mufflers. The only problems is, there may not be room.... the pipes may have to go under the rear suspension.

So I'm still a little lost here. So should I wait till SR comes out with a cat back, and install that, or what other options do I have? Move the intake resonator, okay I'll search for that, and do that.
To take out the intake resonator (the part inside the fender well), follow this:
"It goes from the top of the fender well down to a resonator box and then back inside the engine bay and ends up right in front of the battery! Now it should take in air right from the top inside edge of the fenderwell which should be high enough up to not ever worry about water in the intake anyway.
1. Take off front driver side wheel.
2. Undo the fenderwell cover up to mid-point of wheel arch. Pull it down and back out of the way.
3. There's one 10mm bolt on the front side of the resonator and one on the back side. Take them out.
4. Pop the hood and remove the plastic shrouding over the battery (not over the airbox).
5. On the front side of the battery is where the intake ends up. There is one 12mm bolt holding it to the battery tray. Remove this. Then you can take out the resonator box and intake hose all in one piece without permanantly ****ing anything up in case you ever need to re-install it for any reason.
6. Put everything back together. You should only have 2 nuts and one bolt leftover that are not used. If you have more you screwed up.
7. Put the wheel back on and go for a drive.
You can look at the intake diagram on the Hyundai parts extranet to get a visual before you start."
This was in a post a while ago (I had it saved)...forgot who wrote it, but it should help!

Wait for a cat back to be built specifically for the V6 Tibby or if you have a very good muffler shop that can mandrel bend pipes, you could see if they could make you an exhaust.
Don't just change the mufflers and the two seperate exhaust are for a different car / engine.

Hey, If you really need to get a better exhaust on your 03 Tib, there are a couple ways you might be able to do this.
1) get a new Cat 1 in 2 out, and have a Exhaust tech Mandrel bend the pipes to the proper location.
2) keep the Cat, and get a single muffler 1 in 2 out, and have a exhaust tech mandrel bend the pipes out.
or you can wait for someone else to make one. Get a prices from around your area, see which will be cheapest and best for you.
P.S.
I know I had the second one placed on my Dakota, sad.gif when I had her. Nice Growl use to come from it. An exhaust Tech told me it was capable of holding 500+ HP. It was 2 1/2" in to 3" out.
Hope this might help.
