Today I went to Shorty's which is a junkyard around here and brought my tools along. I couldn't find any Tiburons, but I did find 2 Elantras. One had the 1.6l engine, and the other was the Beta 1 motor.

I'm not sure what year Elantra this is. I thought I heard someone say it was a '97 but I'm not sure. Any clues how I can find out for sure what year Elantra it is? And if it is a 97 could I take out the intake cam (1.8l cam) and use that?

If it's the 1.8L motor, yes you can take out the cam and use it.

Just check the motor my man. It will say all over. Right near the oil pain, also by the throttle body and right on the manifold.

I belive that head and manifold will tell you 2.0/1.8 (they are the same).

If the engine was not replaced in that car - you can see what engine is it in VIN.

you want to look at the block towards the right of the exhaust manifold. It will have an engine code. it should say RD18 if not, it should read J220. You can figure out which is which.

most junkyards i have talked to will not part the cams out of the head so unless you plan on buying the whole head you might as well order the one from kspec. fing02.gif
