I got the idea of posting this after reading one of Blacktibs' posts in his topic about engine repairs. I noticed that he was talking about the belt squealing, even after they were brand new and tightened properly. I've been having this same problem.. and I can't figure it out. The belts were JUST swapped maybe 500 miles ago.. and they've started squealing AGAIN. They squealed before, so I generally assumed they were getting worn out, as I was approaching the 60k mile mark. So I had them all changed, but they're squealing again? I lubed 'em up with some belt dressing.. and it keeps them quiet for a while, but then the squealing starts back up, and constantly squeals until it gets a little warmer.. not sure what to do.. any suggestions?

They're squealing because they're slipping, and your new belts are probably ruined if they've been doing it regularly. It's a good way to kill the pulley bearings as well, since constantly-slipping belts generate a lot of heat. I should know, unfortunately I recently had firsthand experience.

Don't use belt dressing. The real fix is to sand the glazing off the pulleys BEFORE you put on new belts. I used scotchbrite pads on mine, and thoroughly cleaned them with brake cleaner. You can run the belts tighter to prevent slippage, but that's not a good fix.

my belts squeel alittle bit at idle when I turn the wheel but only when it's really cold. I too have stock belts that were just replaced like 6000 miles ago.
