As I posted before, one of the dealers out here continued to misdiagnose a winding noise and a leak on my tib. By the third attempt they may have diagnosed it right but I took it elsewhere.

Yesterday I had the family mechanic check it out. He's used to working on gm's but they had it properly diagnosed in about 4 hours. Which beats the dealer by days time wise. I find that rather funny considering the dealer works on hyundais all of the time and the family mechanic doesn't. So yeah.. a bearing popped out of the differntial and started causing issues and its eating up the axle seal. However, this guy doesn't do rebuilds, only does swaps. So he refered me to a transmission specialist who wants to attempt a rebuild.

I thought about a refurb but the trans I have now only has 69k on it. I don't abuse my tib, I've always stayed semi local. A ten year old car with only 69k on it, I'm kind of proud of that.

The sucky part...

I had an extended warranty on the car that would have covered this. However, the warranty expired only 3 thousand miles ago.

So many of you have gone through swaps? And what is the average price on a new transmission in the US for a tib?

They didn't know but I already got done fighting them for a full refund anyways. They swapped out the bearings on three of the four wheels.. they did the valve cover and they did a few other things. Each time they said it was fixed when it wasn't. So I fought them for a full refund and got that and now I'm officially done with that specific dealer. I am going to still get a new tib eventually but I won't say that my experience with that dealer didn't make me start thinking of those cool new civics.

Heres the purple one waiting in line for its trans job wink1.gif...
