Default Random, someone what is the deal with extreme hone?

Extreme hone might be pronoced or spelled wrong sorry for that but what I'm getting at is there is this place (named above) that ports and polishes intake manifolds etc.. but the difference between Onpols work and theirs is that they go all the way down threw they port and polish the whole inside not just a couple inches in (from what I hear) so I am looking for away to contact them to get a price for my im I would have onpol do it but if they do go all the way threw I would rather go there. They are in NJ any info would be great, Thanks. Oh Onpol no offense to you if you read this and who knows I might be coming to you in the long run.

The extrude hone process will not bore out the opening, but they will gasket match, if you provide them with a gasket...for an additonal $50. Their normal intake manifold price is about $200. So call it $250 with the gasket matching. I do suggest you bore out the opening yourself first before sending it to them.

Their turn around time when I contacted them about 6 months ago was 2 months. So plan accordingly.

An intake manifold that has been extrude honed, will flow better, but will it flow $250 worth of better? Your call. Consider that the BTM and BIM combo only showed 3.5 HP on a dyno...

So I guess my best bet is to go to Onpol?

The Extrude Honed IM will flow better, don't get me wrong, it's a matter of cost benefit. Is it worth it to you vs the cost of just an OnPol modified IM.

Is there a difference in HP gain or do you think it will be the same? On Onpols work does he give you or modify the gasket to fit the new opening? Thanks.

The OnPol IM is modified to fit the stock gasket and ports. the Machine shop takes off about 1/4" of material around the ports. There is a significant size difference between the OnPol IM port opening and the stock ones. You stil use the same gasket, as the IM was just enlarged to the gasket size.

One of the things that Extrude hone has over Onpol or any other basic machine shop englargment is actual flow characteristics.

A 4" pipe will flow more than a 3" pipe, granted. But your intake manifold isn't just a single fat perfectly straight pipe... There's several bends, there's texture on the walls and there's a lot of fluid dynamics involed.

A dremmel is ok for enlarging the ports, but who knows fluid dynamics better? A machinist with an air dremmel, or actually a mass of very thick "fluid" that is forced to go through the part?

Extrude hone forces really thick nasty gritty putty through the manifold under very high pressure. This putty cuts and grinds away at the surfaces that hold it back -- which means the parts that obstruct flow most are removed first. The end result may not be much larger physically, but they flow much better.

A combination of both Onpol's work and Extrude Hone's work would be the best, but if you had to choose, I would actually suggest looking further into Extrude Honee's work. I honestly will probably have them *both* done.

Quick note: Ford's SVT unit found another twenty five horsepower by having Extrude Hone rework the intake manifolds in their Contour SVT motors.
