Default Random - HP per mod?

Random, I have added these mods onto my Tiburon, with your vast experience can you help me clarify the real world gains at the dyno? HP Torque?

AOS (same as UR) racing pulley
AOS CAI intake (typical CAI)
58mm TB+bore manifold
Interior painting (I hear its good for 5hp :-)

Also whats the most HP you have seen a custom exhaust give? I am considering hacking up mine and replacing resonators with straight pipe and the OEM with a "very unrestrictive" muffler. (shotgun, diesel muffler, straight resonator, I dunno)

One more quickie, after this aside from headers, are there any other reasonably priced mods I can consider that still maintain drivability? Any problems with the EGR valve on the Tiburons?

Hope to hear from you or anyone else who has an opinion.
-Steve

P.S. We need a dyno results link :-)

From what I have been reading. Lets see if I can give you in the ball park figures. LOL

Pulley adds about 3-5HP
Intake adds about 5-10HP
BBTB adds about 3-6HP

Interior Painting will not get you any HP, But you can put some stickers on your car and get 100hp per sticker. lol

I read that an 4-2-1 Headder and a Good Mandrel Bent Exhaust will give you about 10 more HP. You may get the same amount with a 4-1 Headder.

Ahh well I went ahead with the shotgn style exhaust, I actually lost HP until I unplugged the battery and let it reset the ECU. I made a huge difference. Before the reset the engine was misfiring on the down rev. After it ran alot better.
Just a reminder to reset the ECU after any major mods. :-)

The following is based off my personal experience and the dyno's folks have posted for our cars and for similar cars.

AOS (same as UR) racing pulley
2-5 HP, 2-5 torque

AOS CAI intake (typical CAI)
2-6 HP, 2-6 torqe

58mm TB+bore manifold
3.5 HP, 3.2 Ft Lbs (the 2 mods together)

I have seen custom exhausts give over 40 Hp...but not our OUR cars... On ours, the best I have seen a dyno for was 10 Wheel HP and 11 ft lbs, but that was with headers. Best without headers was about 6 HP.

Nitrous?
light weight flywheel
extrude hone the intake manifold
Thermal spacer between IM and Head
Valve/combustion chamber work
S-AFC and Dyno Tune it

No, Beta engines do not have EGR valves.

Cams!

The 1.8/GT cams are good for a couple HP and are pretty cheap

Thats what I was looking for, thanks Random. I was also wondering about the S-AFC. How hard it it a) to get cool.gif to install c) to use? You know the mods I have, will it make a difference if I use the S-AFC?

Also, I assume kore has a lightened flywheel, but do you know how much lighter it will be then stock? My clutch is gonna have to be done soon anyways.

One more quick question. Intake GT cam. What kind of HP increases have you seen with this cam? We took the intake cam out of an 02 Elantra and put it in JAWS 01's Tiburon. His Tib was otherwise completely stock. We then took it out on the highway and raced my friends completely stock 99 Tiburon, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear. No matter what we tried they were always side by side. Can I assume its because you need the intake and exhaust done in order to take advantage of the extra lift?

Does the elantra GT exhaust cam have any advantages over the Tibs?

Too many questions ahhhh! Thanks for your help smile.gif
