Racing Transmission?

'course, anyone who gets that could buy themselves a faster, better car. tongue.gif:
To use that transmission, the car really won't be a Tib anymore. It'll be a giant turbo, running nitrous, and putting down over 1000HP. Its a drag racing transmission, not something you put in your street car....

Well...no, it would have its use in rallying (almost all rallying gear boxes are sequential). And saying that it would have its purpose for drag spec cars is sort of misleading. If you did have that kind of money, and you were a dedicated Tiburon tuner, then you could easily use it for 300HP or so. Gemini created a sequential as well for the Beta, and from talks of their other sequential gearboxes, they're not meant for light driving. More for the aggressive driving, something that would be beneficial on a road course....or drag strip.
The upside is....you'll have a unique car that has a great potential to be fast. The downside is that you'll have a FWD Tib using a sequential gearbox, which sort of limits its functionality and purpose to a drag strip more than to road course.

my transmissions cant take the beating of the 140hp i'm putting on them now!
Learn to shift, there is no reason to for your tranny to have problems with your 110-150whp, maybe a maintenance problem.
Tiburon here that are racing use the gears out of a 1.5l tranny. I personnally used a 1.5l tranny with my beta. gears are much shorter. the shortest is from an accent gt 1.5dohc (60mph/4000rpm in 5fth). But then again, shorter gears, more stress on the tranny but better acceleration. Synchros are only about 30$ each....you can also use a longer rod for the clutch displacement.
Sequential tranny for drag? It's funny, all serious drag machine use auto tranny....A sequential gear box is for rallying/road race......think about it, 50 000$ for a tranny...or 40 000 more on your setup + 10 000 worth of brand new tranny waiting to be trashed.

WOW, because you dont know me and have never seen me drive i wont come back mean or harsh. BUT, I am a VERY good driver, i shift perfect, You'd swear it was automatic i shift so well....I just shift too fast for my trans. VERY rare will i miss or grind a gear. I'm not the best driver but i'm pretty damn good. I did a lot of parking lot autocross with my tib. ALSO, i take very good care of my car, maintenance is done periodicly and never miss a date.
Its impossible to miss a gear in a Tiburon first of all, and what do you mean shift too fast for your tranny? There is no reason to shift really fast... shifting too fast means you beat the engine RPM to the next gear. Maybe if you slowed down you would have less problems.
hammy, it is possible to miss a shift in ANY car.. some are just easier to miss than others. And it is also possible to shift too quickly.. it might not be noticible right away.. but a few thousand shifts done as quickly as you can move the shifter from gear to gear will do more damage to the syncros than tens of thousands of normal shifts..
but to your credit, you are right.. there is NO reason to race through the gears all the time..

Well, you get the picture, its terribly hard to miss it. I think I missed 5th once and put it back in 3rd when I first got it. Its no credit to his driving skills that he only misses rarely in other words.
Transmissions, especially stock ones, don't like abuse. Be nice to it and don't hurt it. Synchros are nice things to have.
EDIT: So Redz doesn't eat me for having a practical conversation with Mad, I have never had a transmission not go in gear... I take it you mean totally missing the slot for the gear...

Sorry, I wasn't clear. By learning how to drive, I met that if you know that a gear won't get in at 6500rpm, don't try it. But you probably only have that problem on the 1 to 2 gear upshift. On the downshift, rev match, your synchros will like it.
