Hey whats up guys.. I've havn't been on the forums in awhile but i got a quick question about my cars clutch an 01 Tiburon. I just want to know if its worth getting an aftermarket clutch or just going w/ a stock clutch. All i have for mods are, cold air intake, header and exaust. My clutch is getting ready to go so im going to need a new one soon.

just got a quote from a local place.... 769 + tax. Thats for a stock clutch. Sound expensive?

At this point im thinking about just purchasing an after market clutch kit w/ flywheel and installing it myself. I've installed a clutch kit before on a Ford escort, how hard is this to do on a RD2?

It's not difficult to do at all... I have attached my own install notes here, so go ahead and download it!!!

It's kinda old, but it should get you started on the right path. Do a search on our forum for more specifics, we have so many topics on this

I've finally installed my second clutch this past weekend, and it was cake. You can save a boatload of money by doing it yourself.

^^I don't know if I would call it cake but it can be done. I've done it several times now on different cars. I don't think I'd suggest tackling it blind, do you have a buddy that works on cars to help you out?

you'll need:
basic tools - metric sockets, ratchet, etc.
jack and a couple stands
either a huge bar to support the motor or a cherry picker, you could probably get by with wood blocks under the engine though

yea i got a couple friends i might be able to get ahold of to help me out w/ this job.... I shouldn't have a problem w/ the engine my dad has some pully system he uses at the machine shop he works at that he can bring home and i'll be able to pull it right out. Just trying to figure out how long of a job this really is and how hard its going to be. I should already have all the tools.

Dude great write up, how can you say thats not a complete picture on how to do that!?


Quick question though

7. With VERY gentle tapping from the hammer you should be able to slide the axle out of the hub.

does the axle telescope. If i read this right you will push it out of the hub toward the transmission. ones its lose then you have to pry it out of the transmission?



8. Once the axle is free of the hub, you need to pull it out of the transmission. BE CAREFUL! Do not pull from the outside of the car, you'll stress the universal joints. You need to climb under the car to where the axle (drive shaft) enters the transmission. There is a Circlip holding the shaft in the transmission. Using the pry bar insert it no more than 7mm into the gap between the shaft and the transmission. Some gently prying and pulling from the end near the transmission will pop it out. If you didn't drain the tranny fluid you'll be sorry.

so do you have to take the clip off? I dont see clearly where said gap is that you have to use to pry.


If you could clarify that would be golden!

It's definetly worth getting a aftermarket clutch if you're willing to spend the extra money for it.

And doing it yoursef would save you alot, fixing anything on your car yourself is always better if you can do it properly. saves you a ton of money.
