Default question on resonator

okay, i did a search on resonator removal. didnt answer my question. i have all ready looked on hmaservice and the other hyundai web site for it. no luck. so my question is, is it the same procedure to remove the resonator as in the tibby? i plan on getting a cai, but i am going to have to make it, or buy it later. would i have to still go through the drivers side wheel well and remove the screw and then take off the other stuff? if anyone with a 2k elantra that has done it or knows how, could you please give me a helping hand? thanks!

If you are refering to intake resonator, yes, you can remove it yourself. There are 2 nuts that hold it in place in the fenderwell, and one that holds the air intake scoop to the battery tray. Remove them, and the intake resonator should drop out through the bottom of the fender.

thanks random. you're always there. haha. so its in the same place then? excellent. its not that hard to remove is it? i just go under the tire well. take out two screws, remove a screw by the battery and it just falls out? do i have to take out the battery or the air filter compartment too? or can that stay in as well? i think i covered my basic thoughts on this. am i about right, or is there more too it? thanks again!

Yawwnnn. I removed my resonator and intake scoop just this morning. Not hard at all, just need patience for unscrewing things.. My approach was taking the battery and its tray out first. That way, there is NO need to access the tire well or go underneath. With them out, you should be able to get to all the screws easily. You could visit here for a diagram.

But if you look closely at the intake setup, you should easily see what to unscrew.

SHWA. My apologies. I though you had one of the Gen3 Tibbies or elantra.

your 2000 Elantra is held in place by three bolts, but they are acceseable from the engine bay. You do not HAVE to remove the battery and battery tray...but it sure makes things easier...
