It wasn't related to gas, I've jumped from 93 unleaded to 118 leaded on occasion for track use. Motor in my GSX is still at perfect compression 10k miles later with the guy that bought it, and he runs race gas more than I did.
Explain to me how you figure gas is going to "seize" a motor. |
he was using 87 then jumpped to 93 right away and it drove for a little then died. something with it knocking out a sensor. the car was a camery v6.

wow thanks for the advice guys. I suspected the oil I was using was not the best for my high mileage engine. What weight do you guys run if anyone runs a daily driver thats what I'm more interested in without turbo b/c that is what i currently own. oh, and the spark plugs prob could use a change, thanks for the advice, I was thinking that too maybe as a non-mechanic myself.
There was valve cover gasket leak, forgot to mention after running the engine hard after installing my new clutch. I think b/c wal-mart mechanics (aka bastardz who fry clutches for fun) forgot to put the updated sticker on my car, I didn't actually know how long I drove it, but there was a small oil leak from the top of the valve cover which has now grown a little bit. Actually it looked like it was just coming from right near 1 bolt. And it was like a tick-tick-tick-tick sound that it made until a few minutes after I ran the car after getting the oil changed. At Wal-mart I also told them when I went in I wanted to know how low the oil was, and they said they would put that it was 1 quart low prior to accepting my car otherwise i would have to sign a waiver, and then after the oil change, I asked the 65 year old mechanic where the oil level was, and he shrugged, and then the girl who told me she would let me know where it really was, because i saw zero oil on the dipstick, she came back a minute later and said yeah it was actually a quart low, so i was like, "sure it was" sarcastically and now needless to say I change my own motherf***ing oil b/c I trust nobody, especially wal-mart employees with big yellow smiley faces on their backs. once again, must say, love this site!!! thanks for the dialogue guys, I feel like I can get real answers here and not a sales pitch for something I need. |
Well your in Florida so you don't really need anything crazy.
20W-40 or straight 30 would probably work. |
Gas has nothing to do with this. Also, it won't break your engine. our car is designed to use any grade of gas at the gas station. I recently jumped to 93 when i started boosting. no problem at all. I did that several times like using 83 for six months and then jump to 93 and use it for another six months.
no problem at all. cool.gif |
Fellas Listen to the guy that is watching and eagerly waitng the explosion of his beta. I am currently sitting at 230 000kms, no bs. What I have been useing lately was the high milega by castrol. I m going to be dumping in some Q synthetique (sp?). Just keep here dancing with the usual parts belts, plugs wires (Im still on ma stockers). Don't be afraid to chage your oils and other fluids, usually seasonally is very nice.

what happens if your car is ticking all the time? would that be valves or hla's?

Lilo, a tibby and an quattro A6, very interesting. A good friend of mine keeps telling me to sell my korean car and get a corrado, put a turbo in that and awd setup from a TT so I could then smoke anything on the road. I do like what i've heard about the interchangability of parts of vdubs, but I'm curious why you have a tibby too.

no problem man. also i don't know about the ticking sound all the time, tiburon354, sounds like a permanent problem or just something else. i think that might be the waterpump, alternator, or injectors. when i got pump and alternator changed it fixed that same problem.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>but there was a small oil leak from the top of the valve cover which has now grown a little bit</div> that's just a valve cover gasket. it'sd a no-brainer. if you can maintain your lawnmower, you can fix this. go to the dealer, buy a new valve cover gasket. it should be like $10-$20. buy some copper valve cover gasket sealant from auto store. unbolt every bolt from the plastic valve cover, fit gasket in cover, copper sealant on the bottom and tighten all bolts back down in a pattern one side to the other. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>I trust nobody, especially wal-mart employees with big yellow smiley faces on their backs.</div> haha!!! that's funny. i wouldn't trust them either. go to someone you trust. most of the time big business don't even do some of the work you pay for. i know never to buy from carmax, those clerks driving those cars are loco (burnouts at every light). |
funny you should say that, my friend test drove a gti in orlando and tried to open it up and the salesman yelled at him and then threatened to hurt him if he tried that again. that was at a vdub dealer here, my friend said it showed they really care about the cars they deliver. I went with a same friend a week before to CarMax and ragged the hell out of an rx-8 and the salesman there was laughing with us.
