Default question about fuel injection

My car is a sort of slow for IHE. it's as fast as an Integra, but much slower than an RSX-S. i'm afraid that after my Auto-Manual swap, the engine isn't combusting the needed fuel. i'm wondering if the fuel injection still remains MAF-based for any transmission, or is it different for the manual?

my O2 sensors are fine by the way, no code. on the swap DIY it mentions to switch a pin on the ECU for injection... or should i not worry about this at all?

The manual is also MAF based.

I don't know enough about RD wiring to know whether a pin on the ECU needs switched. Intuitively I would expect that nothing for the fuel injection would need switched, but that is purely speculation on my part.

My guess is that you just expect the car to be faster than it is. The RD isn't a slow car, but it's not fast either. I would say even with I/H/E matching with most Integras is about as good as you're going to do. With I/H/E from what I've seen on the Beta I with a manual the 1.8l gets about 120-130whp and tq, the 2.0l gets about 5 more of each. That's on a conservative Mustang Dyno, and an improvement of 10-15whp over stock numbers.

Go Turbo. That would be faster. IHE can really only do so much for you, and unfortunately its not much.

^it's been so tempting!! especially after seeing a few members' driving videos. just a small amount of PSI would do it. they got up to 200hp. it's not difficult at all except for fuel management. i've always wanted an alpine turbo kit. being on rdtiburon, i'd say about 80% of the people who turbocharged had problems sooner or later and ended up selling their cars or parting out. i stuck with N/A in order to keep and drive my car!

i've got an alpine supercharger sitting here set for 4PSI. problem is it's oil-cooled. gas here is $3.00 Premium, and i just don't want to constantly run premium. eventually, i plan on putting it in.

by the way, i've got a nasty little coolant leak coming from the waterpump. coolant evaporates and smells up. but the waterpump works just fine. any ideas?

Don't mess around, it'll get worse and leave you stranded. Replace the pump ASAP.

Whatever you do don't use any coolant system sealer on it.

i had it replaced at 100K, and now it's 135K! even if it works and doesn't make any noise, it needs to be replaced? could it be a gasket leak? i saw fluid evaporating underneath, and there are occasional pools of coolant on my driveway but not everyday only after every few drives.

tib/elantra's with IHE are about as fast as integras, so that is normal. About the same power to weight.

If it was JUST replaced it could be a gasket.. but you might as well replace it if your going to yank it out. It could have issues even being new, was the replacement an actual HMA part of cheap knock off? That slow leak is the pumps nice way of saying change me now before I give up and strand you.

I would say you have an 85% chance that the water pump is failing, 15% chance that it's a gasket.

I've had water pumps last less than 5k miles. My rule of thumb is that if I have to access a hard to get to part I replace it unless it's prohibitively expensive.

It's pretty normal for the sole sign that a water pump is going out to be a slow leak. If it weeps even while not running it's almost certainly a bad pump, but if it doesn't it does not rule out the possibility that it's bad. If you can get underneath the car there may be a hole on the bottom of the shaft housing that you can check for dampness. That's a sure sign that the bearing has lost it's seal. You also might be able to see where the leak is coming from if it's just the gasket.

You talking about pin 72 characteristics switch? You are suppose to just cut it when doing the swap.......

it was brand new, HMA waterpump! i keep having to refill the overflow container and i saw coolant evaporating from underneath the waterpump housinig. i will take the car to the shop tomorrow morning.

yeah bommello, pin 72! what does cutting it actually do? loneshark told me he cut his and he just got a different CEL code.

my car is full of things that need repairs all of the sudden. too many things to name. at least all the work i've done is holding up but mechanically the car is showing instability.
