Default Project engine

A local used car dealer that buys wrecked vehicles and rebuilds them does a lot of work on Hyundais. I figure that he picks them because he can get them cheap after they have been wrecked. I called him to see if ever sold any parts from the cars he couldn't rebuild. I originally asked about a stock throttle body that I could have bored out and he offered to sell it to me for 100 bucks wich I beleive is a fair price. He asked me how difficult it would be to pull one off a motor and I explained that it was marginally easy. He said that he normally sold the engines complete. When he means complete he sells them with everything from the throttle body to the oil pan and guess what he sells them for, $500 bucks!! Now I could be wrong but is this a great price for a project motor? This would allow me to do all the work on this motor and still be able to drive my car. A bonus to this is there is no core charge and no shipping. This guy is across town from me. should I work to scrape up the 500 or is there a better deal out there? I rember someone stating that KORE could get a used longblocks but they were about a grand.

Yeah that's a good price. My local yard sells motors for $500-750 depending on car and miles. The problem is there are never any Hyundais there I go there about monthly and I have only seen 2 Accent's in the last 3-4 years. I've NEVER seen a Tib or Elantra in that yard. If I could get a motor for $500 for my 2001 Elantra it would be mine.

Too bad you guys don't live in Korea.
You can get a brand new engine from Hyundai for $1000.

$500 is a steal if it has decent mileage. eek.gif

KORE can get you a motor, tranny and ECU for $1000. I'm sure the engine would be around $500.

Does he just have mechanical parts?

I wouldn't mind a set of silver/black leather seat covers for the 1st gen tib. Not the kind with the perforations though.
