I have a 2000 Kia Spectra, I'm thinking about cutting off the premuffler and putting a flexpipe in it's place so I can get better airflow. Is this a good Idea or will it run like ****??

 

When you say premuffler do you mean the resonator? Im not familiar with kias but yes you should get better air flow and it makes your car sound like it has a pair tongue.gif

 

Right, it looks like this,... comes out of the manifold, into the catalytic converter, which you probably already know, and it has a what looks like a muffler in the middle and a muffler in the back, the one in the middle is the one i want to take off

That could be a second cat, or it could be a muffler/resonator.

Take to to an exhaust shop, they should be able to tell what it is by looking at it.

If it is a resonator/premuffler, all it will do is make your car louder, it won't really increase your HP/torque. You should go with a set of headers, high flow cat, cat back and high flow muffler if you want to make more HP/torque. Just removing that one resonator won't make a great deal of difference.

 

Ok, i was planning later to buy a set of headers from the SR website and also buying a new performance muffler.

 

I would wait and do it all at once. When you go with the headers, a large portion of the exahust will need to be *re*-fabricated. You may end up paying for them to replace the resonator/premuffler with a straight length of pipe, then have to pay them again to lengthen it or shorten it.
