Default Power Steering Question

I once asked on another board how much horse power is lost to the power steering pump and was told 1-2 hp max.

I removed my belt yesterday(I like the handling better without it) and the pickup is considerable. I can really feel more power throughout all gears.

Does anyone know the HP lost due to powersteering on a 02 Accent GS?

Thanks smile.gif

Just removing the power steering belt is a bad thing. You leave fluid in the system that you must move around by manually turning the wheel. You should drain about 3/4ths of the fluid, remove the pump assembly, and cap the fluid lines as they leave the steering box. That will give you even better steering feel, and remove about 10 lbs of weight.

You will still only get about 1 or 2 HP to the wheels of free'd up power.
