I told my mechanic that I want to keep my car forever. He told me if my engine or tranmission blows up in the future, he can get me a brand new Transmission or engine. How is this possible? Doesn't he mean rebuilt?

It was one of those small talks that had to end quickly (I.e. during a line in a store). I didn't ask him about the brand new things.

Most likely rebuilt. Dealerships will replace your current with rebuilt when they blow up. When I had my auto replaced under warranty, they replaced it with a "new" auto tranny, that the insides had been rebuilt.

that or you can drop in a used engine. you can keep any car forever so long as once your engine pops you just drop another in.

i was about to get an actual new engine in my car, but my current engine is still flawless. i did get a brand new 5 speed tranny thrown in so technically it's half a new car.

There's a place in GR that will put in a "new" drive train guaranteed for 100,000 miles. They have radio commercials all the time.

most of the stuff is professionally rebuild to OEM standards.. theres a site, i forgot the name, that you can buy an entire crate trans/motor..

i think the motor was something like 1500$

heres the site..

http://www.importperformanceparts.net/

you can buy a short block for 800$ and long block for 1600$ cyl head with valves is like 500$ or something..

they are assembled with BRAND new everything and you can get oversized pistons put in.

Sorry for OT, but that site has a LSD kit (something that converts a regular diff into a lsd) for $259, is that for real?
Edit: Nevermind, I searched and phantom grip sucks smile.gif
