Yea so I went to my girlfriends and my car was wonderful it was running good like she always does... then on the way home about 2 miles or so of driving i could not get it into second or first gear and if i did it would grind like a Bi***!!!! mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif so yea im guessing my tranny took a crap. what else is new. i have 110,00 miles on the car. Just replaced the clutch and everything like 1000 miles ago. I'm really really thinking about getting rid of it now.

 

dude im sorry to hear that tiburons a good car just find a new tranny there not that much or get the parts to rebuild that one

 

check to make sure your linkage is secured to the top of your transmission.

 

So, to get this straight, your clutch engages just fine and you can get it into 3 4 and 5 but not 1 and 2?

Trannies are cheap and relatively easy if you've done a clutch before

 

yea i was thinking of what could be wrong with it, but as Alex stated right there before me, you weren't clear about whats going on.

Is it that the car wont go into gear when its running? What about when its off?

 

we have an entire video dedicated to repairing our transmission, tear down and build up. you can get a combo engine and transmission for under 500 bucks from a junkyard and rebuild it.

 

Well I can get into 1st barely then second i cant get in at all even if i pull it hard. but I can get into 3rd 4th and 5th. when I go from 1st to 3rd though it grinds a little. Its the same way when the car is off. This winter I noticed when I shifted from first to second it would make a weird noise not like a grind but close to it. I changed the fluid when I changed my clutch to Royal Purple. sad2.gif

 

its probably ur 1st and 2nd gear syncro's, 2nd and 3rd do the same in my car somtimes...if i dump the clutch to quick, or get on the gas to quick while letting out the clutch, it makes sort of a grinding but its more like a few quick little pops...

my tranny worries me, i only have 36k miles, and my clutch and syncros are going, i fear it was beat on by the previous owners... but i did sortof teach myself to drive a stick on this car, and im sure bleeding the clutch will help with the slippage i just havent gotten around to it yet...

 

did you lose fluid? check your slave cylinder. i had similar problem with my car and the seals were blown out

 

Ok I now know for sure its not my tranny. Something with the shifter mechanism. I sprayed some wd 40 on it and i could shift into all gears smooth again. But then after a little while I couldnt shift again into first or second. So I'm thinking some new bushings or maybe I need a whole new shifter mechanism (the thign that sits on top the tranny).
