Default Piggyback tuning worth it on NA?

I'm able to purchase a used Apexi SAFC-II Piggyback for $50. Is it worth it on a basically stock car?

I understand that I'll be limited to tuning only in open loop. So the only gains (if any) would be at WOT, and I'm okay with that. And I'll need a wideband, Looking at AEM uego, complete crap? or usable?

The car is a 2000 Elantra 2.0 Here are the mods:

Beta 2 head + headwork + shaved .040 (soon to be installed)

Two, 240 duration exhaust cams

1.8 ECU

Ebay Intake

4-2-1 manifold (1.8 semi header)

Not noteworthy, but here are some other mods.

OBX pulleys

No cats

AC, PS deleted

'06 Tib 4.05 final drive Transmission

Homemade short shifter

Various weight reduction. Weighs just over 2300 pounds, full interior btw.

Relocated battery to trunk

X3 Accent half core radiator

1.5 inch lowering springs

97-01 Tib 17mm rear sway bar + poly bushings

15x6.5 Enkie J10

Wire tuck

'01 Tib muffler

Based on how cheap you are getting it... id say its worth it for the WOT help. and they look neat.

For that money it is. For me the best way it worked was disconnecting the O2 sensor from the computer and tuned after the computer gave me the OBD2 code for it.

I figured with no o2 sensors the ecu would freak out and pull timing. I read a thread where Supercow did that as well with good results. Once it's all setup and everything I'll have to try that.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Sounds like it's time for ITBs so you can put that computer to good use.

Amazing price though! You should do a before and after dyno to document the actual gains.

ITBs and Apexi = u r f*cked !!!

A lot of peope here told me not to use this crap, but I was stupid enough to try and use it with my ITB setup

With your mods I can't see why you need to tune your fuel map other than WOT ?!

With basic N/A mods and Apexi Neo I was able to squeeze 5bhp. ( Yes I have real dyno sheet ... can post it

You can't adjust your timing with this thing so you can't expecet anything major.

I sold that sh*t and bought SMT-8. Its still a piggyback , but you can do almost everything with it. Huge difference if you ask me, but I'm sure you will find the limits of that crap very soon.

Buy it, then sell on ebay/facebook for a profit.

Get a real ECU with timing control.

f*ck that happy noise!

Like Jon said, sell it at a profit and invest in something better. Though I doubt it's worth the investment unless you're doing more extensive n/a mods.

On the 1.8l it makes 5-10hp on top of n/a mods.

So, here's the problem... The Hyundai ECU is too smart for an SAFC. I tried it. After tuning, car would make power on the dyno for 3 pulls. Then, the ECU would compensate, power would go away and eventually I'd get a CEL for LT fuel trims too lean. Sure, you could remove the first O2 sensor, but you'd be much better off with a real tuning solution.
