Tonight I had some free time to weld in the two much needed oxygen sensor bungs to get the car back to proper specifications. After doing so I started the car and left it idle through for a few moments to allow the ECU to trim out accordingly. After some brief driving (1 mile or less), I recieved a P0121 code stating:

TPS/Pedal Position Sensor A Check Rance/Perf.

I did not have a extra TPS to switch out to see what would happen, but I would assume this would be the TPS. I dougle checked all the electrical conections and the only sensor I do not have in right now is the IAT.

Also, when idling, the car will run extremely rich, so rich literally the exhaust smoke is black, can a bad TPS sensor cause this? Also, I have not switched out the plugs to new ones yet, which I will be doing tomorrow.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!
Sean

the car's been sitting for what 2 years and you're turbocharged and you haven't changed the plugs?

I wouldn't run it again until you do, with 6 or 7e plugs (one or two steps colder).

Do you have an EMS or something that you can watch TPS fluctuation while idling/running.

I'm sure somebody knows off hand, but I know webtech has resistance min's and max's for the TPS at full close and WOT. Get a multimeter and check those.

Hopefully just a TPS and plug swap and you'll be back on your feet.

The plugs have been changed twice since I got the car. They are just fouled out, which is why I plan on changing them. I dint have a EMS, but I will be doing a voltage reading on the TPS to see what I get.

Check the TPS connector, unplug it, make sure it's clean, clean it and plug it back in, the... reset the cel error code and see if it happens again... usually codes like this are caused by dirty/loose connectors. btw, is it a Dae Sung TPS unit?

As you have mentioned that the engine is idling ok... so the TPS will not cause you to run rich. If any, it'll be the o2 sensor

I will send you through MSN the OBD Scantool softwares so you can check out your fuel trims

it could be the turbo box if everything else is fine.

Currently I do not have the turbo box plugged in, only the short plug. I will need to hook my ODBII scanner up and check fuel trims and what kind of TPS is on the car.
