COMMENTS:

We found above average chrome in the first sample from your Hyundai. This points to
excess wear at the rings. As all other wear looks good and it's not too high we don't think it points to a
serious problem developing at 99,000 miles. The fuel we found, present at 0.8%, isn't a problem and
is likely from city driving, though it could be related to the chrome. We'll know more as we develop
wear trends for this engine. No coolant or moisture was found. Silicon and insolubles read normally
showing good air and oil filtration. Check back in ~3K miles to monitor.

I got the motivation to do this from Korean Rednecks post a while back linky

I used this company www.blackstone-labs.com

that's pretty interesting... i think i'll have mine analyzed. It would be neato bandito to see how much i've abused my engine.

You need to start using synthetic oil!

oh definetley !!! I mean just by having someone tell you that theres piston ring metal in your oil, makes you think just a little when your mashing the gas !! haha.

and besides, knowing that theres not too much valve metal or iron metal in your oil is very comforting.

haha !! thats exactley what I did, but i did not go full synthetic.

after searching and reading a million reviews, both from manufacturers and from buyers, the decision seemed pretty split down the middle.

half said, " yea go with full synthetic, it wont harm your motor, or seals, or gas mileage."

the other half said, " dont do it, youll be leaking oil, blowing smoke, all the gunk internally in your engine will break loose and cause leaks"

LoneShark,

Sweet analysis. Check with other oils. I'm curious on why you're using 10w40? I used 10w30(the cheapest wal-mart brand, supertech) and I got good readings. Stand by for my third oil analysis. I used 3 quarts of Pennzoil 10w30 Conventional, 1 quart of Pennzoil Synthetic 5w20 , and a can of "Engine Restore" to help my oil consumption. I'm extremely curious on the readings, especially for a high mileage car like mine. I also used Hyundai Oil filter, I've heard that these are top quality for its price. Last time I used a Cheap Supertech ST6607 Oil filter and it did fine on filteration.

i dont know either but well see in a month or two

when i took this sample, I changed oil to castrol syntec blend, ill let ya know how it tests. so far after one thousand miles, it still reads full of oil at the dipstick, after a full night of letting the oil settle in the pan.

so im not burning oil through the engine, but i am leaking a bt around the valve cover, i have to take a look at that soon.

thanks redneck
