Default Re: strating turbo project help!

Im just confirming before I call my mechanic for a head gasket change...

I just changed oil recently to 15w-30 oil to my 1997 tib and found a trace of oil in my radiator cap... this went on for a couple of days already...

Anybody knows if there is another reason for the oil to get to the rad tank aside from a blown head gasket?

Thanks

might want to run a compression check as well before pouring out the money for a head gasket.. just to confirm that it may be the head gasket

i havent found water on the oil cap yet...

but the car is really hotter now... and i hear some "bubbling" in the engine area after a long drive... and the engine smells like burnt oil...

btw, i just have my head gasket replaced around 8 months ago... the gasket though was a replacement coz it's not really similar to the stock one... I cant find any head gasket specifically for the tib here in my place...

how about re-torqueing the head bolts... could this possibly help?

I would talk to REDZ and the folks at Kspec.. they can probably get you an real replacement and mail it in such a way it will not cost you an arm and a leg.

Chances are though, once the gasket is blown, it needs to be replaced.

Have you checked your oil dipstick for any out of the ordinary?? (coolant mixing with oil) When the head gasket was replaced was it tourqed to the proper spec/procedure? Were the head bolts reused or were new ones installed?

Your problem is most likely the head gasket, but coolant in the oil can be caused by less common things like:

Improperly tourqed head causeing warping of the head.
Cracked block (almost unheard of on Betas)
Reusing head bolts (stretch to yield), Hyundai says that head bolts shouldn't be used more than 2-3 times. For what it costs for a new set I would just replace em and not have to worry about it.

Yep... i believe my personal mechanic torqued at the other way around.. He started from the sides to the center instead of the center to the side (ammended in the Webtech)...

I can't see any coolant yet in the dipstick.. I tried placing some WHIZ metal seal yesterday... I have to see if it does any good though... I'm afraid that keeping hight temp would blow the rad like it did before and it cost me a fortune... ouch!

Redz: I only see the turbo gaskets... Aren't there OEM ones and possibly with the head bolts too? thanks man

when you replace the gasket, I would definatly make sure the head is not warped... especially if somebody torqued the head wrong...
