yeah, well at least I know what it is and is a fairly easy fix. I'll just keep adding oil until I can change the gasket out.

That 'goop' can also appear in a car that is used for mostly short trip driving especially in colder weather where the engine does not get up to normal operating temperature for a decent amount of time if at all. You can visually inspect around the head cover gasket to look for signs of leaking oil. If you see leaks go ahead and replace it but if not it's likely due to the type of trips the car is being used for at the moment. In that case it might be a good idea to change the oil more frequently and try to take the car out on some longer, higher speed trips once in a while.

Well, I replaced the gasket when I swapped on the Beta2 valve cover, so maybe I didnt put it on correctly. I pretty much only drive the car 4 miles to work and 4 miles from work every day. I do take it on long road 8 hr road trips every 3 months or so. I think the gasket popped because I drove it for a week with the filter off (I didnt notice it right away) and all the air was flowing directly into the MAF sensor, causing oil pressure to build and then the oil to leak out the sides. So now I just have to put another quart of oil in, then am gonna change the gasket and do an oil change ASAP.

Bullfrog, I simpy took a pair of square pliers and got it off that way, lol. I should have thought of that to begin with.

Those are short trips. The engine really doesn't have a chance to fully warm up in that short of a distance. In my opinion, that is the main cause of that buildup you have seen under the oil cap. Not much you can really do except keep the oil changed frequently.

But definitely replace the gasket if it is leaking.

One thing for sure, that goup is water. When you mix oil and water, then send it through the engine, it foams up and forms that stuff. I don't understand your theory on the air filter.

Well, cause the filter fell off, unbeknownst to me. I drove it for about a week with it off the same way I normally do, which is hard and fast. So all that air was flowing in at the MAF sensor, and that caused the oil pressure to rise, thus causing the gasket to fail and oil to start leaking. Right? Or am I making that up? Cause the oil started leaking at the same time the filter came off. So thats the only thing I can think of, unless the oil was already leaking and this just accelerated it.

BTW, how would water have gotten in there? Through the MAF, no?

water gets in there, because your head gasket leaks... have you ever had a head off a block? if you have, you know that there are places around the cylinders that anti-freeze goes... well if your head gasket leaks, it can get into your oil... and anti-freeze has water in it...

no its not my head gasket, its the valve gasket for sure. I have a vented hood, so I must have drove it in the rain with the filter off, causing rain to be sucked straight in through the maf.
