So i removed my stock header heat shield today and this is what i saw

If that is the stock exhaust manifold you guys get over there, it's much prettier than mine. Mine's a big cast thing. That, to me anyway, looks like it's a custom-made set of extractors.
|
You must have 1.8L engine. All 1.8L came with catless manifolds. It's almost like headers!
|
That's not stock. Stock is a massive cast iron setup that cracks easily.
Edit: Nevermind. I didn't know the 1.8s got a different manifold. I could have sworn my brother's 1.8 was the same as mine. |
Yeah its a 1.8l. i guess i dont have to get headers. haha
Odessit- so your saying the 2.0's have cat right after the manifold and another underneath the car? |
I can't guarantee that every one of 1.8L has this manifold, but for the most part yes. FordFasterr on EXD has this manifold on his XD.
Yup. All 2.0L has at least 2 cats. One in the engine bay and another one right after the downpipe. |
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (OdessitPashka @ Jul 20 2005, 03:33 PM)</div><div class='quotemain'>Yup. All 2.0L has at least 2 cats.</div>
Not ours. We only get one cat under the car. |
I guess after the Rev'A tiburons were made, they needed softer and cleaner running tiburons.
|
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (OzFxCoupe @ Jul 20 2005, 12:40 AM)</div><div class='quotemain'>Not ours. We only get one cat under the car.
<div align='right'><{POST_SNAPBACK}></div></div> I'm talking about US tibs. rd1tib, for better performance you can take those headers off, clean them a bit, and even port a little. |
oddessit- Maybe.. it dont look like there is much to port. I doubt it'll make much of a difference. Im probally going to clean/Prep them and paint them, maybe powdercoat.. just not at this time.
|
My 2.0 KRD Tib has the same exhaust manifold. This is stock manifold (cars with 1 cat)
|
does anyone know if there are any gains from these as compared to the cast manifold??
|
Yea looking under my hood it seems like a few inches you see a cat there. I will post a pic of it later to show everyone that has not seen one like that. My question is it ok to run without the heat sheild?? Have a friend trying to tell me that it will make the motor run hotter but that does not make sense to me.
|
NO no gains
Both the 2.0 and 1.8's had these, depending on production date. Produced before 98/08/16 and you had these puppies Produced after and you get the 1 piece manifold and cat combo |
auburnfan- im pretty sure it owuld be okay to run without the heat shield. I heard from before that the heat shield is kinda useless and they keep your engine bay looking cleaner.
If its running one cat, doesnt that mean the exhaust that comes out is dirtier than 2 cat exhaust system? |
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (supry @ Jul 20 2005, 08:06 AM)</div><div class='quotemain'>does anyone know if there are any gains from these as compared to the cast manifold??
<div align='right'><{POST_SNAPBACK}></div></div> Yeah, this manifold will actually act like a 4-2-1 header that you can get from OBX or something. Design is pretty similar. I bet they will give you a few ponnies smile.gif It's true that if you have only 1 cat, exhaust gases coming out will be more dirty. |
hmmmmmm........... i was wondering the same thing. Thats how mine look, but they are not as rusty as yours or discolored. Lol... I already thought i had aftermarket headers. Guess not
|
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (OdessitPashka @ Jul 20 2005, 05:57 AM)</div><div class='quotemain'>Yup. All 2.0L has at least 2 cats.
<div align='right'><{POST_SNAPBACK}></div></div> hmmm i guess j2s run cleaner than rds cuz i only had one cat |
j2s with 1.8L are older cars, standarts back in 1998 on Emissions were very different than what they are now.
|
thoes are stock for the US spec tibby the korean spec is cast iron lump ahhhh
shit port them poshish them get them diped in crome or power coat them. they would look great smile.gif |
um OP my car is a 2000...
i have a 2.0.... |
hmmm, I guess your and some other cars are exceptions, I know that J2s share everything with our tibs, so even those cats should be the same.
|
nope
im the original owner when i installed my header i had lemme think... manifold with attached header flex pipe/midpipe premuffler pipe over axle pipe 2000000 lbs of muffler crappy bent tip |
mine aint that discolored... for some reason i can rub it a little with a paper towel and red dust stuff would come off. ITs rust and im pretty sure if i clean it it would be brown.
I hope smog wont be a problem. My bros 95 240sx passed smog 2 years ago but failed last sunday... there werent any new mods and i think cali is getting a bit strict on emissions. |
yup those are stock 1.8L betaI "headers"
don't worry about them being so red, mine we're worse at 97k miles. Hey, at least they match your battery tie down... lmao.gif imo, buy aftermarket's and ceramic coat those. They have way more airflow and come with a larger diameter. We (1.8L's) don't have two cats so the header/catback install is somewhat easier considering the o2 sensors. still gotta extend them to the correct positions in the new exhaust tho. don't waste time with porting/coating stockers when aftermarket's look/perform/and sound so much better. |
im going to paint them. since i have paint left over from the wheels. Maybe Silver.. haha it hink that would look better than the red look. the battery tie down is the only thing i have that holds that sucker. when i bought the car, there were no tie down so i just did whateva to keep it from moving. No headers yet, gotta wait for the cash flo to come in.

yup thats what i expected to see but woo hoo i got Stock Oem Headers hahah.
|
you deffinetely made out man your lucky those are some sweet stock headers fing02.gif
|
Well, not quiet so. They would be sweet on a 2.0L tib, but he needs them to have a little bit more power to be closer to our numbers.
|
Got my new ones yesterday when I got my warranty recall on them...
http://www.everythingquick.com/storage/100_0610.JPG |
nice. Did you paint them or did it come like that?
|
Hehe. they actually dont look all that bad. Bet you could fool quite a few people into thinking that you've got some aftermarket 4-2-1 headers.;D
Cannot wait until RSide headers go in! |
That is the way that they came. But the ones that were on there to begin with had a huge crack, so glad that came along when they did.

Looks very nice man. I love the GREY color on the engine..... hope the paint handle the heat.....
BAD... it's a CAT or a resonator just after your "header"??? |
my headers are cracked offtopic.gif does this cause a loss of power?
|
I wouldnt paint the header, I havent tried it but because of the heat Id say half of it would be off and discolored as soon as the engine warms up
|
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (98tibby8289 @ Jul 24 2005, 01:34 PM)</div><div class='quotemain'>my headers are cracked offtopic.gif does this cause a loss of power?
<div align='right'><{POST_SNAPBACK}></div></div> Yes my man. I bet there's a lot of heat permeating underneath your car too, just like mine. STILL havent gotten mine replaced. Your car's gonna stink like shite too. It's listed as a recall so if you're covered under warranty you best be heading over there to get a +/- $1000 part fixed for free. |
2kshark- thats a stock IM, its says ECFI. Electronic Controlled Fuel Injection. HA, when my friends saw it they were like "That IM look Generic". ITs a Rev'A 97 tiburon so there might be many things different in my picture of the engine bay.
